One of the best uses of IHG points is to book a hotel on their points break list. These hotels are bookable for 5,000 points per night and can be great value. Keep in mind that the more popular hotels generally sell out pretty quickly. You can also book and get your points refunded as well.
They have just released the the preview for July 31st to October 31st travel, these will not be bookable until July 31st. We will repost when these are bookable.

Properties Of Interest
- The intercontinental Bandung is in West Java, it’s the third largest city in Indonesia. City itself is largely unremarkable but you go for the active volcanoes and scenery. Not worth making a trip for, but java as a whole is worth a trip in my opinion and a nice change of pace from Bali.
- Manaus in Brazil is obviously a good jumping off point for exploring the Amazonas and the city itself has some beautiful architecture.
- Croydon isn’t exactly in the heart of London but for 5,000 points you can’t complain too much I guess. Most popular ones book out quickly, so keep that in mind.
Our Verdict
Selection in the US doesn’t look awful but it isn’t a great selection world wide. Just the one intercontinental. Let me know what properties you find interesting in the comments and why. Goodluck booking these on the 31st, I have no idea what time they will go live.

It’s prime safari season in the southern African countries during this, so the Crowne Plaza Johannesburg the Rosebank wouldn’t be bad for a layover since most safari trips transit through OR Tambo airport. The hotel is right by the Gautrain station. I prefer the Intercontinental at the airport or the Sandton one, but for 5,000 it’d be good for a cheap layover hotel. Rosebank is a nice area.
Booked 2 nights in downtown Buffalo this fall. Niagara Falls is a short drive away and will check out a Sabres/Red Wings hockey game, too.
I snatched a couple 5K deals today, One in Springfield Connecticut and One in Annapolis Maryland, although its hard getting them for weekends.
Best deal 2 years ago yet almost unusable nowadays. One must be in the right place at the right time or travel there just to stay for cheap…yet I have a different agenda. Will the tide turn with the next pointsbreak? I must admit I lost hope during the past few releases and therefore am not disappointed.
I guess I missed the ‘good, old days’ but how was it better before? Hotels at better places? I saw they had offered Holiday Inn in good location Paris before, but you still had to have plans to go there. I see some decent options in the current round.
The one in Springfield CT looks pretty good for a weekend as i live in NYC,its a 2 hour drive and has a nice indoor and outdoor pool (cash price around $180 on a weekend).
If you live in Boston, the one in Swansea looks good, a 1 hour drive with an indoor pool and free breakfast (cash price around $150 on a weekend).
Springfield is in Massachusetts, the hotel is in Enfield, Connecticut.
The absolute only reason you’d want to go to that area is to go to the Big E in September, if you like that sort of thing.
