I’m a first-time potential gift card buyer for bonus fuel points: is it actually 20¢ per $50+ gift card, or would, e.g., a purchase of a single $100 gift card produce 40¢ worth of fuel points?

You’d get 40 cents on a $100 gift card. In fact many of us will be getting 80 cents on a $200 VGC.

The double perks are only for the gcs advertised. Confirmed

Yep! I didn’t get double points for an amazon gift card. The promotion is for “travel” cards only. That does include VGC’s

Be sure if you need to buy a gift card, buy a visa card first for .20/gallon off per $50 and then turn around a buy the gift card with the visa gift card. Turns into .40/gallon off per $50. Use a solid credit card for gas and it should cover the visa fee.

Is this at Stop and Shop too? They’re the same company.

Giant Eagle and Stop & Shop are not the same company. You might be thinking about Giant and Stop & Stop.

While they don’t have a gallon limit, doesn’t giant eagle patrol people filling up more than just one car. Aka filling gas cans too is frowned upon?

Giant Eagle encourages the use of gas cans. They even sell them on site. They will stop the gas pump if they catch you trying to fill-up multiple cars.

They do have a gallon limit, though it is pretty high at 30 gallons. Yes, they don’t like people filling multiple cars and this is explicitly against the rules, but the same is NOT true for gas cans. There are no warning signs about gas cans, nor is it forbidden in the T&C, and they are even sold in the store. Personally, I’ve been doing 30 gallon fill-ups with gas cans (my car holds only 15) for over 2 years now at GetGo (Giant Eagle’s gas station) without a single problem, every time covering the entire purchase with Fuelperks (which were all earned buying Visa Gcs). It’s a pretty sweet deal, with this 20 cent bonus coming along pretty frequently, but the truth is even without it it’s lucrative. And my wife loves it because she never has to put gas in her car 🙂

I end up doing multiple cars and gas cans with kroger. Max out at 35 gal $35 savings. Wouldn’t mind saving $80+ just for using cans though. Too bad I’m stuck in kroger land with no giant eagles around.

Although seems kind of silly they forbid multiple cars when they allow cans and have a limit anyway. Just making people junp through more hoops potentially spilling gas everywhere(have done that a time or two).

Similar situation, been doing this for awhile (car only holds 13 gallons though, so I’m out there with four 5-gallon cans). Ran into my first “problem” the other night, as the attendant came around and told me “rule of thumb, can’t do this. I turned it on this time, I see you have the fuel perks, but this is risking spilling.” I just said ok, and chose not to explain how there are signs right there stating to keep gas cans on the around (if you couldn’t use gas cans, then why have that sign?.. Also, if you need gas for a generator or lawn mower, what are you suppose to do?). Will try to avoid this guy’s shift, as the 30-gallon fill-up is worth $75 – $100 depending on octane.

Shop n save? If so, why? Isn’t their fuel limited to 25 gallons and isn’t their gift card selection significantly worse? I’d be interested to know if there is a better angle with their fuel program.
