The Offer

Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their circular:
- Get 8x fuel points on the purchase Best Buy gift cards
The Fine Print
- Valid 1/04/-1/10 (starts Friday)
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
- “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
While we are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points in most areas, you can bring down the cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus some other deals. Remember to use a card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

How many points do you earn per dollar on this promo and is there a max you can earn via the promotion?
To max it out, I’d spend $187.50 to get 1500 points, worth $30 at the pump. I can sell BB for 87%, meaning I’d get $24.38 less than I spent for the card. Not worth it (unless you have some use for BB gift cards). Bring back VGCs (or even MCGCs)!
I’ll buy your BB @ 91
that price is way below market
I don’t think that math is correct. If you spent $187.50 on Best Buy gift cards, you would indeed save $30 at the pump. That puts your net cost at $157.50.
If you resold the $187.50 gift card at 87%, you’d get back $163.13. That means you’d actually be profiting by $5.63, plus ideally earning a bonus on your credit card from shopping at a grocery store.
btw, Cardpool is buying Best Buy gift cards for 88.5%, or more if you take payment as an Amazon gift card.
Love the fuel points but don’t love the hard limitation to best buy. Not the most useful of gift cards. Even the Happy brands can be used at different places.
The trick is to use the discover it card for 10% CB.
Then you sell the best buy cards and THEN you sell the discounted gas door to door.
Why 10% CB rather than 5%. Maybe you refer to those first year users who will get bonus doubled? Very small group then.
Just don’t bring a wildcard…
