Stop & Shop/Giant Gas Rewards Now Combines with Fuel Rewards Network

Update: Stop & Shop has announced they are also allowing customers to combine their discounts with Fuel Rewards. Hat tip to reader Jeff S

Giant Food Gas Rewards and Fuel Reward Network both offer discounts on gas at Shell stations. These fuel discounts can now be combined and used together on a single fill-up.

The combining factor is quite important to be able to maximize rewards. Moreover, while Giant Gas Rewards limits us to $1.50 discount on each gallon, you can use Fuel Rewards to bump up the discount beyond $1.50.

Each program has different ways to earn points. Giant Rewards are earned by shopping for groceries and a number of times each year by purchasing gift cards. Fuel Rewards Network has other ways to earn like dining and shopping. You can now either link your existing Fuel Rewards to your Giant Rewards account or simply opt in for Fuel Rewards and use your Giant Rewards as a Fuel Rewards number.

I’ve never bothered with Fuel Rewards due to the limited ways of earning. If you see an opportunity to earn Fuel Rewards, they are now more useful.

I’d initially assumed that the same combing factor would hold true for Stop&Shop and Martin’s, but from looking at their respective pages it’s not being advertised the same way. It might be the page just hasn’t been updated, if anyone tries it out please let us know.

I am looking for partner who can buy gift card from Stop&Shop with my account and I can buy gift from Giant with his account. So we both can get $3.00 off per gas gallon. Email me at [email protected].

I cant figure out way to link the programs. I have Giant food stores (PA) and don’t see any linking option on their website. Neither on FR website. suggestions where can I link them up?

Is this still true?

Would this allow me to keep my points beyond 30 days somehow or do the points stay in their relative accounts?

Good question. When looking at my S&S account, I have 156 points ($0.10/gal). 20 of those points are expiring on 10/6. However on the FR card/app after combining, it says ALL of my S&S points (10 cents worth are expiring on 10/6). Strange. Seems to be a flaw with the link, because S&S points expire at different times, depending on when you got groceries.

Definitely weird. Perhaps a programming bug. But It seems then, that the points stay in the S&S account and their expiration date will remain the same even if you combine. Was looking for a way to extend beyond the 30 days. I don’t use a lot of gas and therefore, sometimes points expire. I was hoping this would be a way to extend them.

This deal is even sweeter when stacked with the .25/gallon that comes with T-Mobile Tuesdays every few weeks. The past month, I’ve had $1.80 per gallon a few times ($1.50 from Giant gift card bonuses, .25 from T-Mobile, and .05 from Fuel Rewards Gold Status).

I just linked my IHG account (which you can’t do from the app, have to do online) and called to ask if the .06 from IHG platinum elite status is in addition to or in place of the .05 Fuel Rewards Gold Status, and the rep told me it is in addition to. As legpanda said, I take that lightly. Hopefully, next T-Mobile Tuesday it will be $1.86/gallon. I’ll come back with a data point next time I fill up.

One avenue/question for even further stacking that I haven’t explored but am curious about is the Fuel Rewards MasterCard (https://d.comenity.net/fr-mastercard/). If I’m reading the terms right, you could buy a $500 GC at Giant with the Fuel Rewards MC, and it would be .25/gallon per $100 (so $1.25/gallon off for a $500 Visa GC). Is that what happens? Also, will that .25/gallon per $100 stack with the other rewards (the $1.50 off/gallon limit only applies to Giant Fuel Rewards as far as I know, as seen with the stacking of T-Mobile Tuesdays).

If the above works, that means not close to $0/gallon, but actually $0/gallon, with a flat fee of $5-$6 for the Visa GC, as long as the gas is below $3.11/gallon with T-Mobile or $2.86/gallon without.

What makes this a really sweet deal is stacking with t mobile Tuesday’s .25 off that comes around every few weeks. Twice in the last month I’ve gotten 1.80 off ($1.50 giant fuel rewards from MC promotions + .25 T-Mobile + .05 from fuel rewards status).
My question is: do you get an extra .06 for linking ihg (because platinum elite status from IHG card), or just .01 more on the .05 base from fuel rewards status. I’ve been having trouble linking the accounts.

The link between the two programs is now working on the Stop & Shop site.

S&S is the only rewards program that I know of which will purge points earned after thirty days.
I avoid that market as much as possible.

One way to accumulate on the Fuel Rewards Network side is through their referral program. Each referee that signs up under you and uses their network at least once gives you $0.25/gallon, with, I believe to be, no explicit maximum referrals (i know someone that’s account is currently at $11+ accumulated). The max per gallon discount on any single fill up still exists obviously.

Considering that, if you’re not yet signed up to the Fuel Rewards Network, please consider using my link. Appreciate it!

Im in the DC area and it’s been this way for probably 2 months now. I only have the 0.06/gallon from IHG elite to add to my 1.50/gallon from VGC and MGC Giant point promotions. Now if I could find a good way to generate significant fuel rewards points it would be even better.

Very interesting report, thanks. Re. Martin’s, their fuel rewards program, at least as operates in the Shenandoah Valley, only works for discounts at Martin’s fuel pumps. (or so I’ve been told — for up to 25 gallons — I’ll be at one again on Monday and will inquire about these changes.)

Am reminded of Kroger in this regard…. end of last month, was away from my home base and out in Colorado…. Found a Shell there in Estes Park which actually did recognize my Kroger #…. but I couldn’t get more than the .10 cent/gallon discount. (even though I had a buck per gallon on the account, if I’d been at a Kroger — or King Sooper as is K’s subsidiary in that area)
