A few months ago, we posted a PSA not to use a Visa or Mastercard when buying gift cards from Giftcardmall on eBay since it was coming through as a cash advance. At the time, the simple workaround was either to use an eBay gift card or Amex. Now that we can’t use eBay gift cards to buy third party gift cards, it’s time to revisit the issue.
My own test done this week on a Citi ATT card (with no cash advance allowance) came through as an ordinary purchase, and the Citi online history clearly shows that no cash advances were done this month.
Looking at the eBay feedback for Giftcardmall, there are a few negative feedbacks there due to cash advance issues, but nothing within the past month. This all leads me to believe that the issue has been resolved.

Bear in mind there haven’t ever been any reports of cash advance issues for direct Giftcardmall purchases, so that shouldn’t be a problem, in any case.
