Google To Offer A Best Price Guarantee On Certain Flights

Google has announced that they will be offering a best price guarantee on select flights booked from August 13th until September 2nd. If you book during this period certain flights will be marked  as being eligible, if you book one of these flights Google will continually check to see if the price for that flight drops. If it does, you will be automatically refunded.

Google has been telling customers if prices for a specific flight are low/typical or high so this is really an extension of this and I suspect most flights will not be eligible for this price guarantee. Keep in mind you’ll also only get the discounted price if Google finds that lower price and not if it shows via another third party. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out when this goes live.

Only on select flights completed by 11/24/19. Still nice though if you have any trips in the next 3 months though: “Price guarantee is available between August 13th and September 2nd, 2019. You’ll see the price guarantee badge on select flights where travel is completed by November 24th, 2019.”

Damn you Google, why must you keep giving me free products and collecting all of my data so that you can control my life? At least Amazon will fight you for sole domination…

I guess they’ve developed the technology to predict (to a profitable accuracy) when the price is the lowest, and mark them as “eligible”. Most possibly at that time you can buy the ticket from anyone and you’ve got the deal.

Yeah, I think that’s the only explanation that makes sense. The other cue being the limited dates; IIRC, these are usually the dates with the lowest prices in the first place.

It’s very seasonal. Kids are back to school in September, so not many families vacationing. Good luck finding that fare in July or August.
