American Express has sent out $100 gift cards to clothing store Johnny Was to some cardholders. Normally when we see these types of giftcard freebies they are restricted to Platinum cardholders, but this time readers have received them holding the Bonvoy Brilliant card as well. Not sure how else American Express is deciding to target cardholders.

Got the Vincero Watch $100 code in the mail today, so apparently this is still a thing. First time ever receiving one of these Amex freebies.
Received $100 for Johnny Was today. Very odd choice by AMEX since they don’t sell any men’s clothing. Not the smartest gift, but I’ll give it to a lady in my life.

Are the people who get sent these gift cards high spenders? How many AMEX cards do you have or how long have you established an account with them?
I’ve been with Amex since 2013. I’m assuming I received a $200 Ramy Brook gift card for my only platinum card open at this time which is the biz version i opened July 2018. Here are my accounts with amount of spend in the last 12 months:
Platinum Biz (opened 7/18)- ~$11k (90% MS)
Blue Biz (opened 6/17) – ~$20k (15% MS)
SPG Biz (now Marriott – opened 10/17) – $0
Blue cash everyday (opened 6/17) – $0
Hilton Ascend (opened 6/18) – ~$3k (100% MS)
Cash Mag (opened 2/19) – ~$1k (100% MS)
Platinum Schwab (opend 12/17 — closed 1/19) – $200
Platinum Mercedes Benz (opened 3/18 — closed 4/19) – ~$5k (99% MS)
As you can see, the only card I use daily is my Blue biz and even then I wouldn’t say I am a high spender. I don’t think anyone knows how we are being targeted.
I got the watch one last year and I am not a high spender at all.
