Is it just me, or has Hilton jumped the shark? Last 2 stays at Hilton were just bad. I mean, you never have to read reviews of Hampton Inn, right? Last stay at Hampton Inn was horrible. I read the reviews after my stay and they agreed with my poor experience.
There are rare exceptions to every hotel brand. Just because most of the hotels in that brand are one way doesn’t prove they all are.
While I haven’t run into a truly bad Hampton Inn yet, there was a Hampton Inn I stayed at several times which was not as good as others, and it was a conversion over a decade ago from a non-Hilton brand (I think Radisson Suites or something like that).
But I have run into what I considered a truly bad hotel here and with other brands mostly in other programs, where most of the hotels in the same brand were much better.
So it’s not just Hilton, it’s the fact that if you don’t check reviews always, then you might run into one of these exceptions.
But you also to read reviews carefully, because lots of people post bad reviews that only apply to particular situations. For example, I see a lot of bad reviews from people who booked through some third-party website, not the hotel program, and then had problems with that. Obviously, that review is not going to be relevant if you’re always booking through the hotel program.
But because of such reviews fine-tuned to specific situations, you have to actually read reviews, not just look at review summary counts, if you want a truer picture of the hotel.
