Hilton Honors Makes Three Small Positive Changes To Earning Points

Hilton has made a number of positive changes to earning points. Changes are as follows:

  • When booking multi room stays you can now earn points on up to four rooms per stay (previously up to two per stay).
  • No limit to the amount of base points you can earn per stay (previously there was a limit of 100,000 points. This will only affect stays of $10,000+)
  • You now earn points for incidental spending at all brands (previously you only earned points on the room rate for stays at Hampton Inn by Hilton, Tru by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton, and Homewood Suites by Hilton)
  • Points expiry has been changed from 12 months to 15 months

Honestly I don’t think these changes will ever affect me, but they are all positive so can’t really complain at all.

I am very pleased to see this. Yes, its minor. But its definitely positive for some people. The 4 rooms is nice. If no one was earning points for those extra 2 rooms (if you reserved 4), it’s good that now someone will get those points. The Hampton Inn thing is nice, if buying from the pantry why shouldn’t you get points; some Hampton Inn pantries have gotten a lot better in recent years.

At a time of ever descending value (read: Chase, every airline, Bonvoy), it’s refreshing to get news of a positive nature. Even if it is just around the edges.

Not in the OMaaT article, but the point expiry is also extended to 15 months (up from 12), and points are awarded on the money portion of a Points & Money Reward (I don’t know if that’s new, or was before).

I enjoy room service at Caesars Rewards and purchasing food on property at Holiday Inn Club Resorts/Vacations.

I bought food for my wife and I on property recently at a Choice Privileges and billed it to the room, last week.

These changes are dumb. If people think by using money to earn points on rooms or incidentals, they are playing the game wrong.

  Hi

The big brands (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt etc.) work very well for people who have stays paid for with OPM. This is good for them.

  Hi

I’m earning truckloads on points on random money stays. I was in San Diego for 5 days between Xmas and NYE, and due to Diamond status, the 3x promotion, and apparently there was an extra 1k / night promo (I don’t remember anything, it just appeared on the statement), I earned enough points for another TWO nights at the same hotel.
