[Expired] Hotels.com: Purchase $50 Giftcard, Get $10 Giftcard (Stack With AmEx Offer For Another $10 Back)

Deal has expired, view more Hotels.com deals by clicking here.

Update: The $10 gift card can be combined with other gift cards. That makes a lot more sense, some discussion about why this might be the case here.

  • Valid while supplies last.

Our Verdict

Deal kind of sucks because the $10 gift card is highly restricted (e.g it can’t be combined with any other Hotels.com gift card). That being said there is an American Express offer for $10 back when you spend $50+ on Hotels.com gift cards so it might be worth picking this up anyway as that is already a 20% discount. As always Hotels.com deals are significantly better when you continue to stack them, full details on that here.

According to the terms at rebatesme the rate is 1% for gift card purchases. You can also use a referral code to sign up – https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rebatesme-shopping-portal-15-sign-up-bonus-15-referrals/

Even though it’s unpublished, ebates may pay 2% (aka one dollar) on a $50 hotels.com gift card. Ebates always seems the most generous on this type of stuff.

You’re the best, Doc. Almost used this Amex offer the other day… glad I waited!

I have combined hotels.com gift cards for a single booking. All you need to do is call customer service, give them the GC numbers and while you wait on the phone, they merge them. All you have to do is choose which one is your primary GC for them to merge the others onto. Whats not to like about that ?

You can combine them on the web. Much easier! And I would do it immediately, just in case hotels.com decides to enforce the non-combining rule.

a decent alternative is the paypal coupon, not sure if targeted
“Save 15% on the price of your booking at Hotels.com when you pay with PayPal.”

partial terms:
“Use this coupon to get 15% off the price of your booking at a participating Price Guarantee hotel when you stay between 1 and 28 nights. You must pay for your stay when you make the booking and pay for your stay with a PayPal account. The discount only applies to the first room in the booking. You’ll need to pay the full price for any other rooms. The discount doesn’t apply to any taxes, fees or additional costs. To use this coupon, you must be over 18 years old and resident in the United States or Canada. You may only use this coupon for bookings made between 12:01 am MT on 11/14/18 and 11:59pm MT on 12/31/2018 on the US or CA version of Hotels.com for a stay to be completed between 11/14/2018 and 3/31/2019…..”

I confirm that I was able to successfully merge 10 & 50 and the other one I had from before.

I was able to do the same. I didn’t find any website that offered cashback on this.
This is obviously only a “deal” if you have the AMEX offer and you can therefore get 2 $10 bonuses (otherwise there are better discounts on hotels.com gift cards). I had only one family member with the AMEX Offer so I bought only one card (the AMEX Offer confirmation came immediately). Obviously, you’re not going to get this AMEX Offer on a hotel-branded AMEX card like Hilton or Starwood!

I was able to combine the two into a single $60 gift card. Used the amex offer too, but forgot using a portal.

Is there still any cashback for buying hotels.com gift cards from their site? I know topcashback stopped doing this.

it’s pretty useless if it can’t combine:(

I don’t get it, how would one use this $10 gift card if you can’t combine? Pay rest of the booking using a credit card?

I combined mine with a gift card I already had. Seemed to work fine.

I likewise was able to combine both the $10 and the $50 with a preexisting balance. I suspect it is a terminology issue. Hotels.com means the word “combine” as in “You are not able to combine this gift card and another gift card when paying for a hotel” because they only allow a single GC for a hotel payment. “Merging” is what most of us do if we have multiple hotels.com GCs, i.e. transferring the balance from one card to another. If that is true, then based on the T&Cs it would not allow someone to merge the $10 with the $50, but obviously first merging with an existing balance is fine. And the “combine” issue is not even really an issue for those of us who play this game at even a mediocre level.
