Hyatt Makes 8 Changes To Properties Award Category

This is a bit of old news, but you’ll have to forgive me. Hyatt has made changes to 8 properties award categories, 7 hotels are moving up a category (costing more) and 1 property is moving down a category (costing less). These changes have already gone into effect on December 13th. The award carts are below so you can see the difference.

The changes are as follows:

Contents

Increasing

  • Hyatt Place Orlando Airport: Category 1 to category 2
  • Hyatt Place Orlando/Lake Mary:  Category 1 to a Category 2
  • Hyatt Place St. Paul: Category 1 to a Category 2
  • Hyatt Place Augusta: Category 2 to a Category 3
  • Hyatt Place Santa Cruz: Category 2 to a Category 4
  • Highlands Inn Carmel: Category 6 to a Category 7
  • Hyatt Place Long Island City/New York City: Category 2 to a Category 3
  • Hyatt Place Shenzhen: Category 1 to a Category 2

Decreasing

  • The Confidante Hotel Miami Beach: Category 6 to a Category 4

Our Verdict

Obviously it’s never great when properties increase in cost, but at least these are relatively minor changes to a relatively small amount in properties. That being said they did already make a number of changes earlier this year (56 properties changed categories). It’s also somewhat surprising to see a hotel drop two categories, but it looks like the Confidante was extremely overvalued previously. That will now be bookable with the Hyatt free night certificate Chase cardholders get.
