Issues With American Express Offers [More Information & Possible Work Arounds?]

Update: It seems that when an offer is added to a card it will be removed from all other log ins. It seems to do this via your social security number or name (e.g if SSN matches it will be removed even if name isn’t the same and if there is no SSN but the name matches it will also eb removed). Doesn’t seem to matter if the person adding the offer is the primary cardholder or an authorized user. Previously this wouldn’t happen in the cards were under different logins.

Reader Rene has suggested trying to use this link to add offers. This brings up an ‘autumn offers’ tab and it seems like that contains offers that had disappeared previously. Another possible option is using multiple browser trick discussed here.

Original post: There are a few reports coming in from readers regarding an issue with American Express offers. The issue seems to be that if you add an offer to an authorized user account, that same offer will be removed on the primary cardholder/other authorized users if the name is the same. This is happening even if you’re using different logins/no SSN.  At the moment this is developing, the aim of the post is to get more data points and clarity to what is actually happening.

I’m having a similar issue where the new interface isn’t showing points for any purchases on any of my amex cards for ~6/26-7/2

MR takes two statements to post. No way you would know how end of june purchases would post now.

Amex seems to have a lot of problems of this type. The problems always appear to favor Amex, never the customer.

Not true with the Saks credit posting twice

Definitely not true, tricks to get an AMEX offer to show up being one example.

i’ve had some offers disappear – i think. i had the google express offer a couple weeks ago on 2 cards, and was pretty sure they expired in august or September, but now they’re gone.

The Google Express offers expired on July 1st. Unless they added new ones.

Seems like it’s by card name.

PRG- offer added
PRG AU(different name)- offer added
Gold AU(same name as PRG AU)- offer disappeared

These are all separate log ins and I confirmed the offer was available on all cards prior to testing 🙁

Not really a DP because I’m not certain, but I think this has happened to me. There have been a few offers that I remember adding to both primary and AU cards, only to later find the offer only on the primary card.
Will have to keep a closer eye on this.

Oh my god! It seems it’s happening to a lot of people and here I am thinking it’s only with me and I might have screwed up somehow.
Here’s the dp – added samsclub.com offer on both Blue cash primary and AU (separate names separate logins) A day later offer no longer showing added on AU account.

Wait a minute…you can give yourself an authorized user card in your own name? How many cards can you get this way, and why didn’t I know about this already?

Yes you can, I have 2 AA user (with my name) for the Plat Biz offer few days ago, i met the spend and get 5K on each.

Ever since Amex updated their web interface I’ve definitely had sporadic times using the multiple browser window trick where I add an offer to one card, and the window with another card freezes and auto refreshes causing the offer to disappear from the other cards. Each time I just assumed it was an attempted crackdown by Amex, only to find the issue gone the next time around.

DL
DL

Right, but this issue is affecting people with separate logins for each card.

It’s true, but even more pervasive. All cards in the persons name, not just AU cards, have the offer disappear.

I can confirm that happened to me too. I had 3 amex cards that had the best buy offer and i had them on 3 separate tabs when i added the offers. But later they all disappeared except for one card. Oh well.

I took your advice in https://www.doctorofcredit.com/how-to-get-the-american-express-amazon-offer-to-show-still-ymmv and added all offers to my wife’s Delta Gold, which has an account by itself. When I looked at her other account which has three AU cards, I found the list of offers was really short. That was yesterday, but now they’re back to having 80+ useless offers. Looked at the Delta, and all the offers I added have gone back to the available list.

Happened in 2 Amex cards so far, for the Lowes 10% Offer i didn’t get the 10% back, i bought 3 $200 vgc + a bottle of water for a total of $616.13 and only got $38.39 for that, i’ll test with another card this weekend and see what happen, does anyone have this issue ??.

TIA.

Had similar problem with staples offer – purchased online 3×300 vgc and 50 uber gc. Got 5 credit for uber and nothing for vgc.

I had purchased 3x $300 vgc from Staples (costing ~$927 after $8.95 fee per vgc). Automatically received the $92.70 offer credit a few days after the $927 charge posted.

Thereafter placed another order for around $86 ($35 non-GC item + $50 e-gc to a 3rd party store). The order was auto-split by Staples into 2 orders. The $35 item shipped and got charged to my AMEX card first. The e-gc purchase posted a day or two later (as a $50 charge).

Automatically received $3.50 offer credit for the $35 item, never received any automatic credit for the $50 e-GC. Called AMEX several about the issue. Eventually they manually posted a $5 courtesy credit to my account in lieu of the missing offer credit. Technically I was due around $4 $5 since the Staples offer tops out @ $100, but in total I got $92.70 (vgc offer credit) + $3.50 (non-GC item credit) + $5 (manual courtesy credit), or around $101.20.

Moral of the story: Purchase your vgc’s FIRST, wait for the offer credit to apply, then make other NON-GC purchases for the remaining credit. Or just purchase 4 x $300 vgc’s at once, preferably on an AMEX card that earns 5% CB in office supplies. Then you’ll get a $100 offer credit + 5% on $1236 (i.e. [300vgc + $8.95 fee] x4), totaling ~$161.80 between AMEX offer ($100) & 5% CB ($61.80).

A few corrections to the above:

… Thereafter placed another order for around $85 …
… Called AMEX several TIMES about the issue …
… Technically I was due around $4 since the Staples offer tops out @ $100 …

Sergey
Sergey

Well, I made a single order – 3x$300 vgc and 1 $50 uber gc. However, Staples split the purchase, charge for uber appeared first, charges for vgcs a week later.

I posted this yesterday on another site,

I added some Amex offers yesterday and put the ones I don’t want on Simply Cash card. This login has all the main cards. Now my AU logins are not showing any AOs except the Hilton UK which I didn’t put on any of the main cards. I wonder if this is a temporary glitch, only applies to me, or they’ve figured out a way to block adding multiple offers? Anyone else see this?

So, here’s what I observed. When a person adds an offer under login1, it’s no longer available for the same person under login2. It goes by the user doing the adding, not the primary cardholder of the cards under login1 or login2.

Mommy RMD

I observed the same thing on my end. As a work around, I opened several browsers at a time. So if I have 6 logins, I open 6 separate browsers and I log on to all 6 online accounts and have them open all at the same time. I still have multiple tabs on each browser because my online accounts have separate credit cards registered (I used 2 Chrome – one of them incognito; and 2 Firefox – one of them incognito; and 2 IE – one of them incognito). I then added each offer under each tab/credit card within each browser to cycle through them all. All offers were then added to my account. Just to be on the safe side, I took screenshots of all offers added to each account before logging off from each online account.

Gerald
Gerald

I found that even with multiple browsers you have to be quick on the trigger. I was only using four browsers and at least once I couldn’t add the offer on the last one. Also, be careful that you don’t get logged out for inactivity.

Amex cust disservice is notoriously inept; each rep you speak with will usually have a different opinion and rarely will solve your problem. Amex needs to have big points and bonuses to keep people using their cards. It’s really all very amatuerish and totally unprofessional.
