Not sure what happened but I did the deal and turned recurring billing off, it says expires on 12/15/2019. This is the same date that my Xbox Live Gold expired. So I believe since this is more than one month and the deal is for one month that if you turn reoccurring billing off it will give you game pass ultimate for the entire length of your current Xbox Live Gold Membership. If this turns out to be true (other people should try and let us know) then you could buy a year-long Xbox live gold membership and upgrade it to a year of ultimate for only $1. Once again I just wanna say I don’t know if this is true for every time but this happened to me and wanted to share because for gamers this is a very very cheap upgrade.

Yes, that is the case for me too. I had about a year remaining of xbox live. The $1 untimate converted the live gold to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate . One thing to note is if you do this and then add say 1 year gold, it will not add a full year to the Game Pass ultimate. They use a conversion ratio.
