Lawyers for the Justice Department have stated that the Trump Administration plans to streamline the CFPB rather than dismantle it according to court filings filed on 2/24. This is contradictory to statements that President Trump has previously made to reporters earlier this month (do you intend to totally eliminate the CFPB, “That was a very important thing to get rid of,”).
According to court filings a streamlined CFPB will continue to:
- Continue to operate its call center and database for consumer complaints
- Produce mortgage data
- Require payments to consumers harmed by corporate misconduct
In early February CFPB was ordered to shut down and employees told to do no work. There were also reports that CFPB was no longer passing along consumer complaints to banks. As part of the streamlined CFPB less office space will be required, with the current lease being cancelled. Union officials have stated that they believe the agency plans to terminate most staff.
I think everybody can agree that regardless of the outcome that this could have been better handled with clearer communication on what changes were being made with no contradictory statements. It’s possible the Trump administration has seen the backlash and legal challenges and decided to make changes base on this. I welcome any change that continues the complaints handling, although it will be difficult to determine if enforcement action is still up to par for some time as these things are usually slow moving.
Please try to keep comments on topic, I suspect we will have to close them after the discussion runs it’s course.
Trump administration, Musk’s DOGE plan to fire nearly all CFPB staff and wind down agency, employees say
This is like a soap opera. Every other day the story changes but it always end up back in the same place!
It will take complaints, but will do nothing about them.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau drops lawsuits against Capital One and Berkshire, Rocket Cos. units
Last time I used CFPB before Trump was elected, they were essentially already a toothless dog. “We collect cases and see if there is any action to be taken at a later time.”
They were de-fanged during the first Trump administration but still far from harmless. The oppression of big banks continued so more streamlining was required.
I don’t remember Orwell using the word “streamline” but he would be impressed.
The Abolition of Slavery/CFPB. or Abortion
WTF are you talking about, son?!

Jack so it made sense to them at least!
Call your States Attorney – dont pretend there isnt help out there
You miss the point, yet again. It’s not that there are no possible alternatives, it’s that the alternatives, like state attorneys general, are more difficult, and companies know that, so they will inevitably get away with more against us, the consumers.
90% of CFPB employees are following orders to do nothing. Therefore they are redundant.
Most of the remaining 10% are gainfully employed preventing the others from interfering with the financial industry. But once the deadwood is cleaned out, they will also be redundant.
A simple algorithm will be capable of managing the honeypot and forwarding the blacklist to participating FIs. Once everything is running smoothly the CFPB can probably be streamlined to just 2-3 carefully vetted employees, greatly reducing the burden on
taxpayersthe financial sector.I have a crypto scheme that will make you millions. Its fully run by a simple algorithm. You get 90% return on your investment. There is only one vetted employee, me, so no overhead.
Lol as a churner I push things hard enough that I wouldn’t be surprised if the banks turn the tables and send the CFPB after me!
I like where your head is at. Always think of the worst case, then think harder and worser.
Did anyone else notice that
Someone considering to forget this site.... requested that the entire DoC site be deleted here: #2012318 ?
Sounds like
Someone considering to forget this site.... needs a safe space. Just the sight of something “political” triggers them. What a snowflake! They could just ignore the posts. It’s not like bank/credit card bonus posts stopped getting posted. Lol
Ooh I got a good name for this safe space: DJT of Credit! Already bought up the URL though. Scam on bros!
That ‘Someone considering to forget this site….’ guy sounds like a CUCK, which is totally cool, because we don’t kink shame, and also because we respect free speech, and will call him out for being stupid.
How do you know that it’s a man? There are a lot of women that comment here also.
Don’t forget this good one from CFPB — CFPB Sues Capital One Over Maintaining Two ‘360 High Yield Savings Accounts’ With Differing Rates

These discussions always reach a point where I can’t even tell which side someone is arguing for.
I don’t know about you but I’m not for a certain “side”. I would just prefer that everyone state facts to back up their arguments no matter which side that they are on. Is that too much to ask for?
