I know these are usually Fri-Sun, but I don’t see that in the fine print this time? Just expires 3/26/2019 (post title says “this weekend”)

It starts when you download the coupon (today) and ends 3/26.

Yeah I was just acknowledging why the title was probably misleading (copy and paste from past posts where it was weekend only); it’s already fixed. Thanks to Chuck & and Will for all you do!

Can anyone confirm they are actually seeing a coupon? I have not been able to see the coupon since seeing this post and checking 3x/week. I asked at the Customer Service desk today and the rep was very kind but unsure if there even was a coupon, she looked and could not find a requirement to e-clip the coupon. She suggested to buy and if it does not credit 4x to ask them to manual credit. Which would be fine except so obviously YMMV and this was not my usual location.

To me this is a real PITA.
Having to liquidate multiple $100 GCs while paying $6 activation fee on each.
Plus fuel points expire relatively soon, and need to take 2 cars to the gas station to max it out.
I’ll probably stick to the variable load GCs at $500 with one $6 fee.

Using a 5% back card reduces the fee to 65c. Maxing out the 35 gallons (I fill up multiple gas cans) makes it more than worthwhile.

If you don’t know how to or have a place to safely store the gas, probably this is not for you

Amen Arch, preach it. In Richmond Va I use my Amex Blue Cash Preferred to buy the VGC for a net .65 and then turn around and buy gift cards with them (Usually Amazon) which makes them 8X. Haven’t paid for gas for three cars for the past 3 years. In RVA you can get the entire per gallon cost, not just up to $1. Sure we have to synchronize out trips to the gas station or use 5 gallon cans, but NO COST FOR GAS FOR THREE CARS FOR THREE YEARS! There is a $95 fee for the Blue Preferred to bake into the cost.

Pretty clever, Randy. You must buy a ton of Amazon. Can you elaborate on how you are able to get more than the $1/gallon? Is it through Kroger or another grocer?–thanks

No – it’s Kroger – but I understand it varies regionally. This is in Richmond VA. At the pump there are three choices, and I choose “full amount” – which right now is around $2.15. We do buy a lot from Amazon (sometimes discounted gift cards) and I use a lot for my work too.

Amex has updated their terms for that card (and others) to exclude gift cards from earning rewards. I’m not sure how they could enforce it, but a clawback, then, is a possibility.

Thanks 86. I’ll keep an eye on that but as of less than a month ago the cashback was still being posted.

Or I use the Amex Blue Cash preferred card at 6% back to buy Visa, then turn around and use the VGC to buy what I really need – which is mostly Amazon. That’s 8X back, and in Richmond VA you can get the entire cost per gallon back, not just “up to $1” We do have to snychronize fillups and we do use cans occasionall but . . . We’ve gassed 3 cars for 3 years and paid nothing other than the annual $95 fee at Amex. Even counting lost opportunities – we feel like we’re way way way ahead.

Exact same deal is also at Harris Teeter. Hope this means they will continue this practice.
