Deal has expired, view more Kroger deals by clicking here.

Update 4/8/19: Deal also available on all third party gift cards. Hat tip to reader Hari & GC Galore

The Offer

Direct link to offer

Check your Kroger coupons for the following offers:

  • Save a digital coupon to get 4x fuel points on Visa and Mastercard $100, $50, or $25 fixed-value gift cards.
  • Deal is also available on all third party gift cards

The Fine Print

  • Coupons are valid until 4/24
  • Points earned in April will be valid through the month of May.
  • Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points, though these details do vary by store and region.
  • Excludes variable-load Visa and Mastercard gift cards.

Our Verdict

Should work for unlimited uses. Be sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases or use Chase Freedom this quarter for 5% back.

at $6 fee for $100 vgc, it’s not enticing to do this; till kroger offers a fee reduction or no-fee cost like safeway’s,,don’t see many ppl do this or buy many of this

Andrew
Andrew

the gas points are worth 14% at 4x back. 8% spread isn’t bad

lenin1991
lenin1991

…that’s only if you get the full 35 gallons, right? I’m not filling a Hummer on my fuel ups, looks more like a break even to me.

lenin1991 we have two teenagers with 2, 4 cylinders, wife and mine are V6. I have 3, 5 gallon gas cans I use to max the 35gallons. I can burn 4000 points a month easy.

I have my spouse park on the other side of the same pump and pump two cars at once which (assuming they’re close to empty) is 30-35 gallons.

dan

Andrew yeah, not bad for a few cards… enough for savings on gas, but def not dozens of cards or spend thousands for MS

escot
escot

who said anything about thousands for ms.?…. this is all about free gas (and free minutes for those of us with the soon to be phased out Kroger i-wireless legacy plans) Buying just 3 $200 vgc on-line @ 4x nets a benefit of $2.40 per gallon x 35 gallons. $84 savings — less the $21 in fees — which you can earn back, depending on credit card deployed. (grocery not applicable on-line) Many other ways to play this…. (this being just one)

Randy

And don’t forget – Blue Cash Preferred from Amex returns 6% – which makes a $100 almost free.

You could get 800 pts, buy a visa $100.. then use $100 visa on $100 worth of other gift cards. I do this periodically

I don’t?

sigh, bit weary (lol) of the so-sure-of-yourself uninformed doubters like you dan presuming that those of us who get the free gas at Kroger (and/or Martin’s/Giant) are somehow wasting our time, and/or expending more in fees than the benefit. (I see below you misread this as a ms play — which it’s not for most. Rather this is all about free or discounted fuel….. which with the coming catastrophic/stupid war on Iran, you’ll soon see gas rocketing back towards $5 a gallon)

dan

escot ur post didn’t make sense…u clearly didn’t read & comprehend…thought i mentioned that most ppl buy a few cards for savings on gas; my pts is with safeway’s no-cost GCs, one can spend thousands, for example, to meet the MSR or the annual limit for the BCP, but with kroger’s regular fee, not enticing to do many esp. fuel pts does soon expire

Comparison based on Amex 6 CB%

GAS: Buy 5 Gift Cards each worth $100. 5 GC = 2000 points

CB: $500*.06 = $30
Card Cost $6*5 =$30
Net Cost = $0
Up to $70 Off ($35 off two times)

VS

$500 Variable Gift Card:

CB: $30
VGC; $6
= $24 Profit

Result: If fuel points are worth much at all to you, this is a better deal than buying a Variable load card. – Like most, I can’t always get 35 gallons but can always get 20-30. (I applaud those hauling gas cans, but taking two cars is as far as we will go.)

No high CB card? The deal isn’t as crazy good, but you can still basically “Double your money.” if you can maximize the use of fuel points. For the $30 purchase fee on 5 gift cards, you can get up to $70 off across 2 fill-ups.

When I first knew the point system, I only got 12 gallon worth, then I told my SO to follow me to fill up, able to use about 26 gal next trip. My SO refused to follow me the 3rd time and said have better things to do than saving ME money. Went on CL and Kmart got few 5 jars. Never have to beg no more, always fill up to 34.99 gal every time ever since. It’s worth the effort for me. Lol

Jon
Jon

Wait, so you had her fill up her car but didn’t share the savings with her? Lol, yeah she’s probably right not to help you out with that one.

Any reason you stop before 35 gal.? Pump stops automatically at 35 IME.

Here is how you maximize this:

Buy $100 gift card – comes to $105.95

Split the transaction – use the Cash App for $75, which will instantly rebate $7.50 thus wiping out the fee.

The rest of transaction use the card of your choice, Chase Freedom has 5% at groceries so that would earn another $1.55 on the remaining 30.95

I’m someone who hauls gas cans, so I get 30-35 gallons consistently, so the 400 fuel points nets around $12-14.

Tworth

This is the first I’ve seen about the Cash app like this. Can you please elaborate?

potatoslayer
potatoslayer

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/square-cash-debit-card-cash-boost-get-cash-back-on-categories-specific-merchants/

The cash App has a debit card which has different ‘boosts.’ One right now is 10% off at Kroger up to 7.50 per transaction. It works for credit and debit transactions (but DO NOT GET CASH BACK or the boost won’t work.)

I use it mostly to buy $75 money orders, which cost $68.34 and put the money back into my account. So far, according to the app, I’ve ‘saved’ $407 (in less than a month) Commuting to work I pass two Krogers, so I stop at each on the way home to get a money order.

Each boost can only be done once every thirty minutes.

I also use this to buy VGC, splitting the transaction and it negates the fee.

Excellent. Thanks for the info.

Is it possible to split Kroger transaction at self checkout?
Thanks

POTATOPC

This is amazing, making $6.66 every 30 minutes right? So could i sit there on saturday and churn these out all day long?

potatoslayer
potatoslayer

Yup I think you could if you had the time And you can split transaction at self checkout. Just call over the attendant and they should be able to accommodate

Can you please share any other ways to do a moneymaker or churn at Kroger or any credit cards? I’m currently out of work and need to take advantage of these deals to feed my kids. Thank you!

I’m not from an area with a Kroger. Can I purchase the gift cards online?

sophie
sophie

As far as I know, yes, you can. But I am not sure about the category bonus

escot
escot

I do this about once a month — and no, grocery category bonus does not apply. Yet 4x fuel points does apply. However, if you don’t have a Kroger fuel center in your area (or one of their affiliate market networks), not sure what the benefit would be? Last I checked, there are severe limits on the cash discounts at Shell.

Aron
Aron

What is the limits with shell? It doesn’t work the same way?

sophie

partner fuel program, i.e., shell and bp, where one may
also fill up to 35 gallons.

“Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points, though these details do vary by store and region”. Do some places allow a bigger discount?

Dylan
Dylan

Don’t think any Kroger offers more than $1/1000 pts, but I think in some areas you’re limited to redeeming 1000 points whereas in other areas you can redeem as many points as you want up to the actual cost of the gas per gallon (e.g. redeem 2500 points to save $2.50 per gallon).

escot
escot

It may not be the usual $1 limit, yet many of us have regularly reported local Krogers where there are no limits…. (I’m getting worried I might kill the golden goose if I keep repeating the name of the cities/regions with no limits…. and I now see the wisdom in DoC not listing them either…) Another hint, if you’re in an area where Kroger (currently or in the past) competes with places like Martin’s, (or Giant or Stop n Shop), where they too don’t put limits on the max discount, then good chance the local Krogers will not either….

Every time this deal comes up, y’all always say “all” when it’s NOT all (since it doesn’t include variables).

I know there’s no intent to bait-and-switch, but some of us who do VGCs only shouldn’t be given wrong info in the headline. And yes, we know there is never an intent to allow VGCs to receive Fuel Rewards, but in reality they occasionally have something “slip” through, so there could be a case where an “all” deal actually exists.

I love this site, but in the future can you simply use the accurate word “fixed” or “most” or don’t use a term at all– just don’t use “all” please

Can i get a variable $500 VGC and get 4x FP on that purchase?

Matthew

No. No fuel points on Visa/MC variable load unfortunately.

No.

Note that some Kroger affiliates do not seem to require a digital coupon for this (eg Marianos). It works automatically.

Rob

Does a shell gc count as a 3rd party? I commute quite a bit and would be more interested in but gas gc at 4x fuel points.

Rob
Rob

This morning I bought 2 $100 Visa fixed value cards and the fuel points are not showing in my account anyone have any idea as to why?

Rob
Rob

This has been fixed. Seems there was a glitch in their system that didn’t even register me the basic 2x fuel points either. They credited my account with 800 points

dan
dan

while the digital coupon stated limit 1 per customer / household, the system does give 4x pts for multiple VGCs in 1 transction? like if buying 4 of $100 will get 2k pts, right? Thx

I don’t know why but I love 50 fuel points rewards program by Kroger Feedback group at https://www.thekrogerfeedback.com. Whenever I shop at Kroger store, I take their survey withing 7 days hence I get 50 fuel points as rewards. Wow!! Thank you Kroger.
