Our Verdict

You can transfer Citi ThankYou points to LifeMiles. They are also selling points at a discount currently. Personally I avoid purchasing points like the plague as I think most people are able to earn enough airline points for travel without the need to pay for them.

Where is Citi selling points at discount? I’m new to ThankYou points and I think it costs $25 for 1000 TYP. Also need to have the Permier or Presitge to transfer points to Avianca/Lifemiles.

I don’t see 48% when I click on buying miles, I see %35.
And this is when you get the 35%:
This promotion applies for miles purchases made between August 28th and September 18th, 2018 (between 00.00-23.59 GMT -6, El Salvador). The bonus percentage applies as follows: for purchases from 1,000 – 10,000 LifeMiles receive 2×1 +10% additional miles, for purchases from 11,000 – 40,000 LifeMiles receive 2×1 + 25% additional miles, for purchases from 41,000 – 200,000 receive 2×1 + 35% additional miles.

< 11000 miles one mile costs 1.57 cents
40000 miles one mile costs 1.4 cents

Unless you really don’t have enough for half the ticket you want to get with miles, it is not worth buying the miles. You can transfer TYP to Avianca/Lifemiles and you can get one of their credit cards to give you a start.

If you have (or will have) around half of teh miles needed for a ticket, then you can also get the ticket with half miles half cash for almost the same money as buying the points.

The cash/Miles ticket purchase at around half $ and half miles, one mile costs around 1.5x cents.
