Lufthansa Announces Award Devaluation, Will Go Into Effect May 9th

Lufthansa has announced they are making changes to their award chart, these changes will go into effect May 9th, 2019.

Rates for economy and premium economy are remaining the same some economy prices are also increasing (e.g North America awards are going from 30,000 to 35,000 miles) while business class and first class are increasing in price. The price increases range from 5,000 to 12,000 miles. This is a true devaluation, no routes are getting less expensive but at least Lufthansa isn’t calling this an ‘enhancement’.

I’m thinking that using United miles is the best way to fly Lufthansa.

Their program is a joke. Any time you route a stop in 3rd region, the price jumps a lot up to their 3-region award chart. I once got stuck paying 90k miles for biz from Indonesia to US via Taipei. Good luck avoiding that to Africa, India, Middle EAst, etc..

To add insult to injury, their CSR often can’t see space and routing that plainly shows up on Aeroplan or UA searches. I had to yell over their objections and feed them flights one by one and insist they try it.

I burned all the miles I had and won’t look back.

Economy awards are also increasing:
Domestic awards (e.g. US) increase from 25,000 to 30,000.
North America awards increase from 30,000 to 35,000.

The rows/columns are the exact same as in the old English table.

They not even calling it an “enhancement”? Obviously the Germans need to outsource their PR division.
