- Marriott is offering status match, unfortunately there is no official website for the status match and you need to call in to receive it. Requirements:
- Complete 8 qualifying nights within 90 days to be upgraded to Gold Elite Status
- Complete 16 qualifying nights within 90 days to be upgraded to Platinum Elite status
The Fine Print
- You can only do this once between September 1st, 2018 and December 31st, 2021
- No status with any other hotel required
Our Verdict
Some phone representatives are stating award stays do count and others are stating they don’t count. When they actually read out the terms to you, they do say award nights count so I’m not sure where this confusion comes from exactly. I’d just listen carefully when the terms are being read out and make sure they state award nights qualify and also get a reference number for your call. You can also try to get them to e-mail you the full terms but from what I’ve read people requesting this haven’t actually received the full terms (if you do, please forward them to me). Previously I believe they required 9 stays (not nights) for Platinum status.
I have no idea why Marriott has decided to launch this now considering the integration with SPG is still ongoing and there are a lot of issues still.

Does the 90 days start when you sign-up over the phone? Have a bunch of stays in Sept that would put me close if they looked back til Sept 1st.
Hey doc… I just got a CSR to email the full terms. In the terms it says multiple times “paid stays” however towards the bottom it says this:
“Nights spent while redeeming an award are eligible for credit toward this promotion”

I just signed up (via SPG) and the rep specifically read to me that I wouldn’t be getting an email confirmation that I signed up for it (and that I completed it afterward). I’m regretting signing up for it now since I doubt the system can properly handle and track this and I have no way to prove that I even signed up for it. *sigh*
I signed up for both Marriott and SPG elite challenges years ago (when they were separate programs), and I never got any email notification of either. I don’t know if they’ve EVER sent out email notifications about challenges..
Similarly, I never got email notifications for Hilton elite challenges that I did.
In all of these, I’ve just had to track my progress on the requirements manually.

Keep in mind that the Marriott statuses were renamed in August, and the old Marriott Gold is now called Platinum, and the new Gold is a low-value Silver-plus status.
So while the challenge for Platinum might be worth it, I see no point in doing a challenge for Gold.

Curious about this too. Have a honeymoon in early Oct at the Fiji property and earning Platinum would be huge for that. Upgrades + daily breakfast!
what if I did a challenge before? ( with SPG)
Is there anything in the terms about it needing to be new reservations only, or would existing reservations qualify?

I went ahead and just signed up. They couldn’t answer and wouldn’t email an terms to me. Figure I’ll just see what happens. Not too happy as they also couldn’t send me any confirmation that I’m enrolled.
So would you retain that status through 02/2020?
