Nationwide Buxx Cards, Manufactured Spend & Gambling, SPG Boingo + Referrals & Much More

  • Very Important Baby Service at the Park Hyatt Zürich by Upgrd, Regional First. Seems like a really useful selection of items for people with young ones. I’m not a parent, but I imagine these types of small touches making it much easier to decide where to go back to.
  • How to sign up for the Amex gift card Premium Shipping 3-Month Free Trial by Frequent Miler. You can only use this once, so make sure you use it at an optimal time.
  • Yodlee Gets Acquired by Envestment by PYMTNS. Pretty good exit by Yodlee, they basically power anything to do with digital finance. Happy for their team and investors, let’s see what Envestment does with the company.
  • Manufacturing Spend via Daily Fantasy Sports Leagues by Travel Codex. Lots of risk and relatively small volumes at play here. Not really what I look for when it comes to manufactured spending, but it might be useful for some of you. Consider any money you actually gamble to be lost and don’t get sucked in if you started winning, with a big rake like that there will be almost no long term winners.
  • Refer your friends to the American Express Starwoods card – 30K for them, 5K for you by Miles Per Day. You can refer friends to the new 30k offers for the SPG card, you’ll receive 5k per referral. I’m trying to work out some sort of system where users that provide value to this blog (insightful comments, tips about content for the site etc) will be able to post their referral links. Don’t expect it anytime soon, but it’ll come.

Re: Amex GC free shipping – I am now on my second free trail…just over a year apart.

Chuck

Nice, I didn’t know they offer that more than once per account,

I have had no trouble loading my NW Buxx cards with Citi cards, unlike what the blog post says. And the teen cards show up as regular debit cards in Citi’s payment system so I can just load and then pay back the card by calling in a debit payment over the phone! Not holding my breath on how long it will last…

I thought we all agreed to stop posting critical MS stuff? You guys have basically just killed Nationwide Buxx cards. Thanks a lot guys.

Here, piggy, piggy.

Why don’t you just get our of this forum.

Have never seen you publish even one item of interest or help to others…..

It’s not like Flyertalk.com is a public site or anything…

Every method is going to die eventually. If it’s not published here, it will be published somewhere else.

Nothing in the world is more annoying than people who complain “you’re going to kill the MS by sharing it waaahhhhhh”.

The only reason you know about it is because someone shared it with you. Or maybe you’re the solitary brave soul who discovered Buxx cards on your own, in which case why’d you share it with the rest of us?

You guys make good points. I’m just more concerned about noobs calling and complaining about not being able to load their card and complaining about getting a $1 refund.

It’s going to happen, and eventually some upper-middle management type at NW will come to his senses and shut it down or nerf it. But that already happens. Classic tragedy of the commons: all we can do individually is enjoy the gravy train responsibility and try not to be the asshole who gets too greedy and ruins it for everyone.

Congrats to you for owning up to your mistake. I hereby retract my comments.

That was meant for Emmanuel, not you Jeremiah, who I thank for mentioning it for a newbie like me — but who would never do what Emannuel suggested, in any event.

I’ve been looking at the NWbuxx cards for awhile now but havent signed up. whats the deal with the teen cards? can you put yourself/ variations of your name to be the parent and teen?

Drew

Well, that’s not technically what it’s intended for, but it works and that’s how everyone does it. They don’t do any actual verification.

I put my own information on the “teen” card the only thing I had to change was my username for the teen account.

thanks for the replies Drew and Josh!

Also, just to make sure, applying for NW Buxx is a soft pull right?

I briefly have been reading about this device and have some questions about it’s practical applications.

First, are the “teen” cards the Buxx cards that you use to spend/purchase things with?

Second, does each “teen” card have it’s own spend/purchase limit, or does the “Parent Loading Account” have one or do they both?

Third, if the Parent Loading Account have a limit is it a combined limit for ALL of the designated “teen” cards, or is the limit PER EACH “teen” card.

Many thanks!

Yes, you use the teen cards to buy things. Each one has its own daily and weekly spend and load limit. No combined limits (other than five per address), but per card. I’m doing two cards right now unloading to Redbird and Bluebird. It works great for easy MS at a lower rate than everything else – kind of like an Amazon Payments replacement.

I make sure that my tackle is included somewhere inside the contact
form or e-mail for them to effortlessly send the coupons off tome.
