Navy Federal Credit Union: Military Appreciation Month ($50 For Joining/Referring – Share Your Referrals)

Navy Federal Credit Union is offering some bonuses for military appreciation month, they are as follows:

  • $50 for referring Active Duty, DoD civilians and contractors, as well as their dependents (person you’re referring also receives $50)
  • $50 for becoming a member (just use a referral instead – that way somebody else gets $50 as well!)
  • $50 for opening an active duty checking account with qualifying Military Direct Deposit
  • $250 when you refinance an auto loan
  • $200 for opening a new cashRewards credit card and meeting the minimum spend requirements (read our full post on that here)

Keep in mind that joining NFCU is a hard pull, I’m not sure if they do another one when you open a checking account as well or not. They do have good credit card offers (like the cashRewards offer and also up to 40,000 points on Flagship card). So it probably makes sense to join now so you can pick up the $50 for joining and another $50 for the checking account. If you’re not a military member there is a work around, but you won’t get any bonuses from that.

Feel free to share your referral details in the comments below. You should just need to provide your member access number & last name. Then new applicants need to fill in that section when signing up.

Would be grateful to anyone who uses my referral. It’s a great credit union. But be aware it will be a hard pull on your credit to open your account. I found that out the hard way. But still worth it in my opinion.

I have been a Navy Federal member for about 20 years. They haven’t been my primary bank most of that time, but it was easy to keep the account active (no min. balance or inactivity fees), used it for ATM access when I was deployed, and now more for in-branch services. Also, I keep the the accounts because they do have promotions somewhat often, and feel like I can count on them for help if I ever needed it. Highly recommend their CD promotions (2-3%) for your “emergency fund” or as part of your CD ladder.

I am a contributor/commenter to this site often under a different username, and would greatly appreciate the use of the referral. Thank you in advance.

Quick ACH pushes to yourself or others – Another thing I really like about NFCU, you can do an ACH push to your other bank accounts, or to ANOTHER PERSON’s account at any other bank, from your login. When you setup the ACH, it asks for the account holder’s name, RTN & Acct number. This stands out to me because most banks forbid you from setting up ACH to another person. This makes it easy to send money to a friend or family member, for example, as long as they trust you with their account info.

No trial deposits – With NFCU ACH setup, you do not have to mess around with verifying the standard micro-trial deposits. You get a one-time code, an almost instant confirmation number sent to your e-mail address, and plug that back into the NFCU website to confirm your ACH setup. That is a time-saver, and great for triggering Direct Deposit on most other bank account bonuses… WINK WINK, nudge.

I tried using your # do i have to list as a family member and what branch do you serve?

No, supposedly you don’t have to be a family member to be referred, but you do need to be military, DOD, or related to a military member, to join.

Per the terms, I can’t “sponsor” you, as you don’t live in my household – sorry. And unfortunately, the site does not clearly state how to refer someone. The way it’s setup, it seems like you have to choose family member or household member to get credit for the referral/sponsorship.

Maybe Will can chime in on how this is supposed to work? I don’t want to get myself in trouble by adding “fake” family members. I don’t feel comfortable skirting the rules for 50 bucks. From reading the thread below, someone did just that…. best of luck.
