New All In One Card From LoopPay Founder (Samsung Pay), OV Valet Card

In 2015 Samsung purchased LoopPay to enter the mobile payments market. LoopPay (and what later became Samsung Pay) is unique in that it can be used on terminals that that don’t normally accept near field communication (NFC) payments. The Founder of LoopPay has now launched a new all-in-one card called ‘OV Valet’. All in one cards were extremely popular in 2015, but most failed to actually to materialize a real product and those that did didn’t live up to the hype.

The advantage of the OV Valet card is that it uses the technology behind LoopPay and Samsung Pay meaning it can be used at 94% of current terminals. It’s possible to pre order the OV Valet card for $69 and it’s expected to ship in Q1 of 2021. Most people will still find mobile wallets more convenient and I don’t see a use case for paying $69.

I was able to test this exact product a year, maybe 2 ago and we’ll the keychain doesn’t hold. I hope they improved it and it’s no longer usable because they had a cutoff date for its usage. I’m interested in using it again but won’t be purchasing this time around.

The use case, if it looks like a normal card (and not some card with a stupid LCD screen) is getting around cashiers who check for gift card before giving a MO.

short story, you haven’t been able to add GC’s (aka visa/mc cards) and you won’t be. Cards need to be verified by the issuing bank so it’s fully dependent on OV Valet and who they have relationships with.

What would be the point of this product being accepted everywhere if they may not support all of my bank cards? My credit union only added Android Pay support like less than a year ago.

From a technical perspective, with MST, you SHOULD be able to clone any non-smart card to this device, without having to verify anything; alas, they probably aren’t going to enable the feature for “your protection”.

OTOH, how could they possibly get the individual agreements with all issuers for official support? Shouldn’t they enable manual non-approved support for issuers with whom they don’t have an agreement? Otherwise, you’d still have to carry a normal wallet.

It’s not a card. It’s a key fob. It doesn’t have your name. And you can’t load gift cards onto mobile payment systems.

You won’t be able to add it as those cards will fail verification as ‘not supported’ when added. Even if you could add it, it wouldn’t help as more and more places are now requiring a chip card for MO.

I’m a little confused by the branding here — they sell LoopPay to Samsung to rebrand Samsung Pay, but name their subsequent startup as ovloop.com?! And go back to Indiegogo to secure the funding for this “OV Valet”?
