Our Verdict
Shame about the 10 cap, but should still be useful to some people.
UPDATE:
This worked on Sunday, 11/24.
Since this company is known for having glitchy software, I figured I’d try doing it on Sunday — as that was initially part of the program before they scaled back. Monday afternoon I received my rewards for the Sunday purchase, so my account totaled $120 in rewards (over the course of 3 weeks)
Would they accept unbranded/compatible cartridges?
From my experience, they always have.
I did recycled yesterday, but reward not showing up till now. Should I wait or check with store or talk to customer service over phone/chat?
look like it was due to 2 different account due to merger of office depot and office max, It went to other account. Customer agent merged those account.
Sad to see this end early, big signs still up in the store with the 11/30 end date, but it was too good to last. This was a great deal. Spent the $10 on clearance items for stocking stuffers. Did all three weeks.
This deal is too good because they give out $40 a week. that was probably a mistake.

They apparently decided this deal was too good, as they cut a week off. It now ends this Saturday at the latest. IT MAY END EARLIER, SO TAKE ADVANTAGE SOONER!!
I turned purchased a non-sale item on Saturday, and the rewards showed up Sunday.

Did this tonight. Worked like a charm!
Apparently they only require you to spend $10 (on anything) in order to recycle. Staples makes you spend $30 specifically on ink! And they don’t warn you if you don’t qualify when you submit. So they literally stole my ink cartridges.
I actually wrote to Staples and they told me to pound sand. I even shopped it around as a class action but no one would take my case (I only reached out to 10 firms IIRC). Any lawyers here??? I suppose I could do small claims, which is a royal pain…
Isn’t it pretty well known you have to buy $30 worth of ink every 30 days at Staples? Regular rewards members can recycle 10 carts/mo, Premier/Plus can do 20.
No? It’s probably well-known among ink recyclers though. And it’s 180 days unless they’ve changed the terms.
You’re right, I didn’t see that I mistyped. Thanks for pointing that out. It is every 180 days which I like better instead of $60 (6 x $10) at OD.
And it turns out they give you 2 bucks for every product review you write! Max 3 per month! Rewards posted the day after I wrote the reviews while signed in.
Went to the store today and was told that “qualifying purchase” means regular priced items even though it’s not explicitly stated.
I legit recycle ink at office depot every month for rewards and don’t think I’ve ever bought a regular priced item
First, you need to spend $10 on something other than gift cards at Office Max. And then you have to spend another $4. That would require too much effort.
Spend $10 to get $40 for 10 cartridges? I can do that with minimal effort.
