Update 8/15/19: Deal live today

Update 8/6/19: It looks like they are doing some sort of alternate reality game/puzzle. The page for the never ending pasta pass, has some sort of riddle and some of the words are links to facebook posts with pictures. I’m guessing the first 50 people to solve it will receive the lifetime pass or something similar. Goodluck! Hat tip to reader David Smith

Our Verdict

Last year it was 8 weeks for the same price, so this is an additional 1 week for free. They got rid of the yearly pass this year and replaced it with an extremely limited number of lifetime passes. I’d forget about the lifetime pass, but looks like you can just buy the regular pass to have a shot at the lifetime pass so that’s a plus. These passes can be incredible value if you’re happy to eat at the same place over and over again during a nine week period.  Some restaurants even let you do take out orders if you order too much food, but that varies by restaurant. Goodluck to everybody who goes for this one!

@missjenniferd1 has made many informative and helpful posts on this site. I agree that we should share helpful info here and not make disparaging comments.

Ryan
Ryan

@missjenniferd1: This was clearly a WWE reference and not meant to be disparaging. That Austin 3:16 line (made by Stone Cold Steve Austin) is one of the most famous statements in professional wrestling history (and was responsible for totally shifting a multi-billion dollar business)

Missjenniferd1🦁🦉
Missjenniferd1🦁🦉

I upvoted you, ryan, because you explained the reference because obviously I didn’t get it, but in looking up the reference, it actually was a disparaging comment in the original usage.

The opposing wrestler was a recovering alcoholic who overcame that by faith in Christ and was citing john 3:16 as the reason for that. And in response steve austin made light of that and the bible by saying Austin 3:16 says i kicked your ass.

So to me it was still disparaging the bible, and mocking the faith of that person, although i do admit not previously understanding the wrestling reference.

I think its awful to mock anyone’s faith so i took it very personally because although most people take their faith very lightly, there are those that their faith is the most important thing in their life, and a lot of times people just stomp all over it.

I think that is extremely mean spirited to do to anyone regardless of one’s personal feeling about faith, it may mean everything to someone else, and i am one of those “someone else”, but even if i werent, theres no reason/purpose to be so insensitive and mean spirited to someone else’s beliefs. It’s just mean!

(◔_◔)

Really? You do realize that professional wrestling is fictional…an action packed soap opera, right? Criticizing someone’s use of a very popular catch line from it is equivalent to critizing someone who says “I’ll be back” in an Arnie-void by pointing out how the terminator used that line to indicate he was about to commit a massacre, and that using such a line is tasteless and indicates a propensity for violence. No, sorry, but a popular catch-phrase is just a popular catch-phrase. Just because I jokingly screamed at my wife “NO WIRE HANGERS” when she was cleaning out the closet doesn’t mean I’m advocating abusive behavior. A catch-phrase is just a catch-phrase.

Further, you are using your understanding of what it means now in order to justify your response before you knew what it meant. That’s illogical. But worse than that, now that you know what it means, you are doubling down on your original stance.

And really, just think about it. His post was supposedly insulting in your mind, yet you knew he had like 40 upvotes on the post. 40 upvotes is a pretty high number on DoC for even a fairly informative post. But 40 upvotes for an insult post? That should’ve been your clue that something was up.

You might want to look back at your original post and think about who was really the one being awful and mean spirited.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁
missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

i still think its disparaging. and i still dont think it should be quoted for that reason. no wire hangers doesnt make fun of something so personal and important (to some people) as religion does. in fact no wire hangers is hilarious. any religion mocking whether its christian, jewish, muslim, or what have you is uncalled for and totally unacceptable. i wont be responding about it again. and not only that, regarding how many upvotes, there were like 3 at the time i made the comment, and besides that, i couldnt care less if there were 777 upvotes, its still uncalled for and totally unacceptable. but ok, you do you. i’m still correct, and the quote is still unacceptable, even if they are quoting someone else. that’s like saying something totally racist out of a movie, and then say , ah, it’s just a quote, im not really the one saying it. if you dont get it, too bad, im not going to keep on about it. i find it offensive. im sure others do too, they just dont want to comment to random people on the internet about it, they just ignore it. but eventually someone stops and says it wont be ignored. sorry i’m not moving from my seat on the bus. do you understand that quote?? its the same. dont be offensive to people because of their race, religion, or anything else for that matter, and i’m actually NOT an overly sensitive type, and i think people are waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy tooo oversensitive over the past couple years, but the fact still remains, religion is not to be teased…ever. full stop.

RF
RF

You mean disparaging comments like when @missjenniferd1 went straight to calling @SteveAustin an idiot because she didn’t get the reference?

For anyone who didn’t get the joke, he replied to a post that ended with “John 3:16” and he posted the reply as “Steve Austin”. That was the name of a very famous professional wrestler (“Stone Cold” Steve Austin), and probably his most famous catchphrase was something he created in response to “John 3:16” (I’ll skip the details of why he did it), which was “Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass”.

So yes, the @SteveAustin poster made a joke, which apparently not every got (understandably), but @missjenniferd1 got pretty mean right away. The funny thing is that the @SteveAustin post didn’t even sound like an insult, so a more appropriate reply would’ve been “huh?” or “WTF?”

The lifetime pass actually could be fairly valuable even if you only eat intially once a quarter, then once a mont, then once a week going into retirement 20 years down the road.

Not a huge OG pasta fan, If it was unlimited soup, salad and bread sticks I would seriously give it a shot trying to score a lifetime pass.

sorry, but your statement is false. weight is dependent upon how many calories you consume. you can eat whatever you want 1000 calories of fat, 1000 calories of carbs, and 1000 calories of protein all “weigh” the same.

in other words, if you are accustomed to consuming 1500 calories per day and you stay at that regardless of where you eat, you will never gain weight. now i preface that with, as you get older, your metabolism changes, as well as your activity level, so as you age, you will have to adjust your caloric intake.

regarding fat/carbs/protein, balance is actually best, we need fat, carbs, and protein, and deprive yourself consistently for any particular one, and you will develop health problems.

regarding pasta…. that is high in carbs, and although it may not make you fatter than eating the same calories of protein, high carbs is correllated to diabetes, and so to offset that, you have to make sure that you balance it the rest of your meals with protein… as eating protein with your carbs counteracts the dramatic effect of blood sugar levels.

i see great things with people on the keto diet, but i feel it’s extremely unhealthy long term, but if you are overweight and it helps people lose weight, i’m for it, as whatever works for you to get the weight off (without using diet pills!!! — i have heart problems from using zantrex 3 for a couple years), is good, so long as you dont stay on that long terms, as i can imagine people on keto are going to really have problems later due to the high fat content it has, it’s not healthy for your heart or your blood.

besides that, i’m pretty sure people dont want to hear whining from the audience about their dietary issues, just let people do what they like!!!
it’s like when someone posts a pizza deal and everybody starts with the “if you eat that, you’re a slob” and etc comments…. who freaking cares. you do you. let others do how they like, nobody is interested in what you think about their deal that they are excited about. how would you like it if you were excited about something and everybody came along and told you what a crappy deal it was…

tl;dr: if you’re not interested in the deal, move along.

Some Guy
Some Guy

More updoots for this please, crazy how many folks came here to carb shame people.

Roia Fens
Roia Fens

i hope you like getting diabetes. protein doesn’t undo the damage of carbs. long-term high-carb consumption builds insulin resistance and will lead to diabetes regardless of protein consumption. also, fat is very heart healthy. you’ve been fed a bunch of lies by didn’t-know-better doctors since the 1970’s. carbs are what is killing america.

🦁Missjenniferd1🦁
🦁Missjenniferd1🦁

Ok im 50 and my health is fine. Nowhere close to diabetic, and regardless, this isnt a health forum. Fat is heart healthy huh??? Lets see how that theory pans out in 10 years… Along with your “carbs is killing america”. No laziness and lack of physical exercise along with overeating is what is supposedly “killing america”. Even though people are regularly living into their 90’s.. i have zero interest in debating diet on DOC and wish he would delete comments not pertaing to the deal. If you dont like the deal…. Move on!!!!! Ps if you keep putting all your faith in “new science” youre gonna be awfully disappointed on the regular. Science is usually wrong.. dont believe me? Live longer and youll see for yourself. Want to find out sooner? Google it. Theyve gone back so many times about health matters they were “absolutely certain” about. Ive been in healthcare 20 years, ive seen it first hand.

Frogger
Frogger

Overeating isn’t what is killing people. It is the unhealthy food. Diabetes and heart disease is brought in by eating unhealthy food.

Jeremy
Jeremy

I agree carbs are bad…but how do you explain Asian countries? They eat loads of rice and noodles and stay thin and live a long life.

Sa

Rice fiber vs bleached wheat flour. The body retains them differently.

fitzejunk

Yet another doctorate from the University of Google. Carbs arent inherently dangerous. Overeating anything can be dangerous. Next class you take at google.com, look up keto diet and renal failure.

fitzejunk

I want to upvote this more than once. The amount of ridiculous crap that gets posted under these sorts of deals. Overconsumption of anything is dangerous. The dose makes the poison. Keep fighting the stupid, futile as it may be.

Sa

“1000 calories of fat, 1000 calories of carbs, and 1000 calories of protein all “weigh” the same”. Do they get broken down stored the same way in the body? Does our body burn fats when it has sugars available? It is not about the “weight” of the calories. It is about training your body to burn fat. And their food sucks in general. I have an obligation to tell people this is not a good deal.

🦉missjenniferd1 🦁
🦉missjenniferd1 🦁

you dont have an obligation to tell grown people how to live. you are not their doctor, nor do they care what you think. this is a “deals” forum, not a “what does sa think” forum. bye felicia. p.s. go read the rest of my comments, i nowhere say that they are broken down the same, i was responding to the previous commenter that said you would be a fatass if you ate at olive garden everyday. i can prove the extreme of that false in one example. go give 1 neverending pasta bowl to all the kids in cambodia, and come back in a year and tell them they are all a bunch of fatasses. why must we have these debates every time there is a food deal. ffs!!!

Sa
Sa

$500 for unlimited Olive garden food. I think it’s not a good deal. Fits with the forum. What did you read of what i wrote? 50 years old and so light. Calling names on anonymous forum. The food is crappy and this offer is not targeting starving poor people, ie children in Cambodia. If you take advantage to make it worth the $500, you will get both fat and sick from their approach to hygiene. Can you focus enough to get the datapoint in regards to the deal?
Yes, it is my obligation to tell people here. They post datapoints for me here all the time. I owe this forum.
You are health professional? When? After your shift at the restaurant?

Missjenniferd1🦁🦉

Ok sa. Ive taken note of you, and i will be “muting” you from this day forward. I know theres no mute, but i will not be responding to you ever at any time, and furthermore, you dont ever need to respond to me either ever again. Frogger as well. Ive also asked doc to implement a mute/block button for users like you. And you can keep responding if you like but i wont be bothering with you anymore. Not worth my time debating bs with idiots on the internet.

Frogger

Eating crappy Olive Garden pasta will kill you if you ate it every day. Healthy food is fruit, vegetables and beans, nuts. Eating bleached grains in Olive Garden pasta mixed with some sort of unhealthy oils and processed meat is going to mean an early death.

And I assume you are unhealthy and really shouldn’t be giving people advice.

Anonymous

HEY DUMBASS (FROGGER) why would you assume i’m unhealthy? im not even eating at olive garden. i work in healthcare, and have for 20 years, so i know what i’m talking about. not sure where you get the notion to “assume” im unhealthy, or to therefore draw the conclusion that i shouldnt give people advice. go have a seat somewhere.

Bull.

I’ve had the pasta pass 5 times so far, and I’m down in weight 60 pounds. Owning the pasta pass doesn’t mean you engorge yourself in 20 pasta plates a day, geez.

I go in and eat a zuppa soup for lunch (400 calories) and take a spaghetti with marinara sauce and either grilled chicken or shrimp home for dinner, that’s 500 calories. A 300 calorie breakfast and you can LOSE weight eating at Olive Garden.

Plus you can go in and just get a soup or salad, eat a breadstick, and just have grilled chicken with no pasta or sauce. There are many ways to use the pass for free/cheap food to feed you (and your family) for 2 months.

Frogger
Frogger

I am sure if you look at people who eat at Olive Garden regularly they are unhealthy. Keep eating your super processed foods and see how it works out for you,

Can you explain how taking pasta home works? If I ordered a refill and “was too full to eat it” would they give me a box to take it home?

As always, the option to dine-in only is a dealbreaker for me.

I could care less about unlimited salad or breadsticks.

i think the lifetime pass is a good “emergency” investment (if you can get one). who knows, maybe one day something will happen to me and i won’t have any money for food. i’ll at least have the option of eating something without worrying about money.

Grand Funk

Lifetime? If you eat this every week your “lifetime” might only be 10 years max.

Does this include breadsticks? Ive never been to OG

Olive Garden itself is free, unlimited breadsticks.

Frank
Frank

I wonder what the option value on the lifetime pass is. Like on the off chance they become a healthy or better restaurant having free food. Odds are they’ll have gone backrupt or removed that option by then so probably low.

Either pass seems great if you are low income. Easily 63+ meals in 9 weeks if you commit
