I had a family plan and got a gift card last year. I chatted a spotify rep and they had me remove all the family members, downgrade to an individual plan, they applied the gc, then I upgraded back to family, and re-added the family members. One family member lost some stuff that wasn’t an option on a free account (not sure if it was songs or playlists) and had to re-add it later.

Overall it went ok, but took 20-30 mins plus coordinating the re-adds. The hassle wasn’t worth the discount.

spotify is at costco for $98 for a year. slightly cheaper
