Proponent Federal Credit Union Visa Signature Card Review: 2x Points (Worth 2.5% Towards Travel) Review

Before we get started, it’s important to note that PFdigest found this card. I thought it would be worth a quick review as well, but feel free to read his post first. In this review we are looking at the Visa Signature card offered by Proponent Federal Credit Union.

Card Basics

  • No annual fee
  • 0% Introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for first 6 months
  • Card earns 2x rewards points on all purchases when you spend $1,000 per month. Otherwise you earn 1x point per $1 spent.
  • Visa Signature benefits

  • Immediate family of existing member
  • Household members of an existing member

How Much Are Points Worth?

Whenever I see a card earns points, my first question is always how much are those points actually worth. PFdigest again found the rewards catalog and the following are options:

  • FlexPass travel discounts: Start at $100 for 8,000 points (1.25¢)
  • Gift cards: Start at 1,500 points for $10 gift card (0.67¢ per point)

Points are good for two years from the time they are earned and there is no maximum to the amount of points you earn.

Our Verdict

Potentially this card lets you earn 2.5% towards travel on all purchases, I think the downsides are significant enough to make this card not worth considering:

  • You have to spend $1,000 per month to get that 2x point rate
  • You’re restricted to using your points for airfare and through their portal

You can view a list of other cards that might be better options for everyday spending here.

im skeptical about how the travel rewards tidal wave bandwagon is shaping the competition of financial instruments. to me, this leads to not better products/rewards but just more devals and rising cost + other inflationary trends..

THIS is how you write a post on a subject that someone else has already written about. Literally, the first thing I/you read is that someone else wrote this first. Then it’s mentioned again later on in the article.

On multiple occasions I’ve seen things written on this site appear on other blogs, even blogs I really respect/enjoy, and all that is mentioned is one sentence at the very end that essentially says “and oh yeah, HT to DoC”.

I think he was praising DoC’s H/T method, though it could have been more clear.
