The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Publix is offering $10 off when you purchase $50 or more of groceries and a $50 Visa gift card. $50 Visa gift card has a $4.95 purchase fee

The Fine Print

  • Valid until April 19th, 2019

Our Verdict

Best case scenario you’re saving $5, but having to deal with unloading a $50 Visa gift card. Personally I think these types of deals are not worth doing but I guess if you shop at Publix anyway it might be worth it. As always make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases, that includes the Chase Freedom this quarter.

The savings shopping elsewhere would be more than $10 unless everything is BOGO.

Ain’t that the truth! I only do occasional BOGOs (with coupons if possible) at Publix.. I shop at ALDI for almost everything else. Gallon of milk at Publix is almost $4.00 at ALDI ~$2.75

RE: Publix milk prices. Noteworthy. And, it’s not even another brand name!

Otherwise, makes sense if you are less than $100 from a focused minimum spend and time is fleeting.

I hope Publix gets back to the deals on gift cards from last year. I don’t know why there haven’t been any yet this year.

+1

My Amex Blue cash preferred annual fee was coming and with zero Publix MC/Visa GC deals, I downgraded the card to the basic blue cash.

A few weeks ago they had $10 off $50 on Happy gift cards with just a $10 purchase. I bought a few.

Can you use the Happy’s to buy VGC? What do you do with them

Just a friendly mention- Chase Freedom had grocery stores as Q3, not Q3. This quarter is streaming and gas stations.

The gas card deal ($10 off every $50 in groceries) is better all around. Especially paired with the Amex Gold card at 4 points per dollar.

Did that one last week. Deviated from Shell (too pricey). Tried RaceTrac this time; at least, they are competitive.

Groceries includes H2O. Although the weekly H2O BOGO is at W-D this week.

PS Where is the deal promoted, ie, not in digital account, so what paper ad? Tip contributor can link to a local Virginia store. Looks like a location YMMV.

$50 Mastercard from 8/24/19-9/6/19, not visa.

Today’s flyer has the $10 off $50 visa coupon again. Valid until 9/20

A Publix employee told me their money order fees are going up 10 cents starting next week.

Not showing up in central Florida ad. Didn’t know you were limited to $50 gc. I’ve had no issues picking up $200 gc with 50 in groceries

Actually it’s in the colorful ad booklet, one page back from the last. That is, if you are in the FL area which could be also be considered central near the west bay. There are two booklets, one food and one non-food. Just try checking both.

Publix is so overpriced you’re better off at Aldi, even with a special deal. I’ve seen items at half off at Publix that still cost more than the equivalent at Aldi.

Partially agree, but…. For us anyway:
>>> (DOC = Chase Freedom for Q4 is only Dept Stores and PayPal, so no grocery stores, thus no stacking). <<< $1 Store = Arnold Bread[s] at $1 are great, (and fresh), if you get there when newly stocked (3x/week).
— Not as happy with Aldi’s new makeover with emphasis on over-inflated organic produce, produce priced / LB instead of / unit, many deals are hard to find now. So other than Aldi weekly sale items, surviving more on Costco samples for now. 😉

Paul

Yes, I have to agree with @Andres. Prices (and quality) at Aldi make Publix a hard sell these days. I occasionally try to go for the gas card deal, buying specialty items at the Publix deli and some BOGO offers.

For the gas card, my choice is WaWa since you can load the card on their app and use it to buy gas or their food, plus you’ll earn points towards a WaWa reward (usually a free fountain drink or discounted sandwich). And of late, there has been a boom in WaWa stations popping up in south Florida.

Publix has been offering this deal for years.

Although it is not a great deal and I agree with you, William, saving $5.05 is better than nothing at all; and I always found the coupon misleading because of the $4.95 service charge. I have never taken advantage of this deal.

Now, if they did away with the $4.95 service charge, it would be a better deal…

They need to bring back the $200 MasterCard fixed discount deal….
