Be careful when buying cards from raise.com and make sure that you use them or apply them to your account such as transferred to a Starbucks rewards, as soon as you get them. I had an issue with some Starbucks egift cards and luckily raise.com had great customer service to help handle the situation.
I bought a few low value Starbucks egift cards that I ended up forgetting about and had saved to my computer. When I finally found and realized I had them upon checking the balance the cards have been deactivated. I checked with Starbucks customer service and they told me that somebody cashed the gift cards out because of California’s $10 and under rule. They told me to check with raise.com to see. Meanwhile I have never used the cards or transfer the balance. Starbucks customer service along with raise.com thought that whoever had the cards originally listed for sale might’ve kept the card number and pins handy and noticed that those values were not used so they ended up cashing them out and pocketing the money at full value instead of the discounted price. Luckily raise.com gave me a refund. This might just be an isolated incident but it was a wake-up call for me and hopefully a warning for others.
My experience with the last one of these promos is that I was able to buy a new card that leads to raise cash, rather than buying a card listed by a third-party on the site, and still received the discount code email.
How do you know you are buying a new card?
if you buy from a large retailer with a large number of identical discounts at a common value, ie a $25 Lowe’s card at current 2.7% (dozens available), they are usually bulk orders/generated at purchase by raise. If you buy a Tumi’s gc (5 available) that’s valued at $208.65, that’s obviously a customer one. physical cards will almost certainly be 3rd-party since raise doesn’t buy physical cards for resale.
There is a buy section at the top of some stores, where you can set your denomination. He and I are both under the assumption that those are ‘new’ cards.

Right. Not worth the hassle and risk of crap not tracking and then a 60 day wait for 2%, kinda a lot of work if you plan on sitting on the cards. But worth while if you have a $200+ need now. It kinda shakes out to be 7-8% plus any CC rewards.
That’s why it’s better to jump on 10% discount gift cards when they come around. It’s easier.
I don’t have a use for a lot of gift cards, but I take advantage of periodic Amex offers at Best Buy and Lowe’s and Chase offers at Rite Aid. Also, Amazon use-1-point deals.
