Recap: Bourdain, $50 Off National & More

  • Anthony Bourdain dead at 61 by CNN. Anthony Bourdain has always been somebody who has inspired me to travel, take the road less traveled and to try my best to cut through the bullshit and share honest opinions that matter. Usually when a celebrity dies it really doesn’t have much effect on me and I find the tributes to be over the top but in reality I guess a celebrity has never died that has meant as much to me as Bourdain. If you’re struggling with depression or anything at all, I beg you to seek help (call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255). Thanks for making me a better person, Bourdain. You will be missed, RIP :(.
  • Stack These Offers to Get $50 Off National Car Rentals [Minimum Rental Terms] by Running With Miles. Nice little stacking opportunity.

Better question is, Why would they tell you the truth? Its a far cry to know what really happened when all news media has an agenda. Know how many people in the past have been “suicided” but the police investigation has the person somehow self-blowing themselves up from the back of the head two times? the truth is stranger than fiction. sorry to be what I think could be off-topic.

These events always reminds me of my elders who said that money and fame never made any person more happier. The people and surroundings around you make you happy. You need somebody to talk to and share your happiness and difficulties, your ups and downs etc. More and more people in our society are becoming lonely and thats a very complicated issue to solve of course. Really sad and totally agree with DoC on seeking help immediately in one form or other in case anybody feels this way.

This is the price humanity has to pay for trying to become machines. We are living in a society where profit is the only thing matters. These people had everything on the outside but felt an emptiness inside. This will keep on happening as long as we are judged by what we have and not by what we are.

Will, thank so much for posting the link to the suicide prevention hotline.

So many times these things happen and we all assume that no one else we know is struggling, or we simply don’t ask.

My cousin shot himself in the head in March, and not a mention of suicide by our family except behind closed doors. I advocated strongly to use the funeral as a teachable moment but the parents rebuffed.

Again, ask for help if you need it and ask your friends and family if they need help. We never know.

Doc, you are always a sound voice of reason. I wasn’t really a Bourdain fan, or a Kate Spade fan, but still sad news to hear.

I read something recently that struck me. I don’t have the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of ‘a murder is a crime against the victim, but suicide is a crime against humanity as a whole’. I couldn’t agree more.

RIP to them both. And let this be a reminder to us all to never give up, no matter how hard it gets. Because if you do you’re committing perhaps the most senseless of all crimes.

Anthony Bourdain’s death hit me hard as well. I think part of it was that he lived this life that seemed pretty ideal to many of us, and pretty much had my dream job.

Yet, he was obviously still struggling with demons that eventually overcame his will to live. I guess it’s a good reminder that you never really know what’s going on in someone’s mind, regardless of how they look from the outside.

L just do not understand why you would kill yourself in this way and at this time, knowing your best friend, Eric Ripert is going to be the one who finds you. WHY?So sad, a man so beloved who could not stand himself. RIP Tony, love your pal Tex, from Sesaon 6,episode 3, No Reservations.

Complete surprise to me since he had all the fame and fortune a celebrity chef would want in the industry and earned it rightfully. I guess at the end of the day we have to look back and see if there were any hints and there weren’t any.

Strange he decided to mention this last year in an interview with ABC News’ Rebecca Jarvis, Bourdain said when he was younger he had a kind of “live hard, die young” attitude. “It came as sort of a rude surprise to me when I turned 30 and I was still alive,” he said. “I didn’t really have a plan after that.”

Young mind and fresh brain kids in school age no longer thought about moral, not educated about respect for elders and compassion for those younger then you and respect for rule of law and personal responsibility. This is why we have all these conflicts and suicide and commit gun crimes. The politicians won’t talk about moral ethics, respect , compassion and instead always politicize the problem on certain people or objects.

Yeah, on one hand seemingly a great person, but on the other, larger, hand, NOBODY should leave when there’s still a child around that needs them. Nobody.
