- Another Great Spending Offer: This Card Keeps Impressing! by Miles to Memories. There is a reason this is one of the best store credit cards available.
- DEAL DEAD – Office Depot 2% or 3% Rewards on gift cards by Miles Per Day. I know some readers find these dead deal posts annoying, but I think it’s really important to look at deals that weren’t publicly posted that are now dead to try and learn what to look for for the future. I knew that it worked on stores outside the target area, not sure why I didn’t think of signing up under a friends address.
- Elon Musk warns of AI’s risks, calls for regulation now by CNET. I always have time for what Musk says, it’s important to keep in mind his OpenAI conflict of interest but I still think he makes some great points.
- Uber is matching all July 18 in-app tips by EZ Journeys. I wish they would just get paid fairly to begin with even if it means higher rides for users.
Musk has no clue what he’s talking about. He says this stuff for headlines. If you look closely at what he says you’ll find his arguments are very specious.
Elon also thinks we’re ‘almost certainly’ in an alien race’s AI simulation (a claim backed by no evidence whatsoever). So which is it? We are AI, or we need to be deathly afraid of AI?
Errm….
There is evidence that our existence could very well be a simulation, there’s a possibility and that’s all Musk points out. He doesn’t assert that we are a simulation. So know the difference.
He says there’s a ‘one in billions’ chance we’re NOT in a simulation: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/elon-musk-ai-artificial-intelligence-computer-simulation-gaming-virtual-reality-a7060941.html
That’s a lot more than suggesting a ‘possibility’ as you claim. And to repeat myself, any ‘evidence’ he cites is highly specious. His argument boils down to “40 years ago we had pong, now graphics are much better. Technology progresses. Ergo, we must be in someone else’s simulation.”
It just doesn’t follow.
Wow, the OD/OM rewards were based on the zip of the account?!
That must have been a nice deal from Denver, a bit sad I wasn’t informed! Just heard it was in Denver, and didn’t investigate much.
I guess that’s why they never restricted rewards earn on GC until a nationwide rollout, because few out of area folks knew of the loophole!
For the gap card, I received 200 points/ transaction with 5000 points cap. I am happy with $50 reward that can achieve by purchasing 25 $.5 Amazon gift cards, without putting the card in wallet. This along with the kohls card are the only two store cards I have and it has been very rewardin g.
Couldn’t Uber tip matching be used for some quick cash – e.g. I tip my friend $2mil, he gives me back 1.5x and keeps the other extra 50% from uber?
Any downsides or caps mentioned?
Had the same thought.
+1
Anybody uber driver in l.a. want to look into this:)
nm 🙁 just read this on another forum, which sounds probable:
There’s a limit on in app tip. $100 or 2 times the trip fare.
They’re gonna 1099 the tips probably , so the 2x reward will be effectively reduced . Also Uber is likely aware of this they know about fraud on their platform, i bet the addendum Uber had the drivers sign places a weekly cap on tips
Your buddy will owe taxes on the two mil, putting him in the 35% tax bracket and he’ll end up not making half a million. You’d have to account for that. I think that’s over $700k in taxes he would owe.
