- Not a big fan of April fools, but I did think whoever made this fake ‘Flat Earth Society Credit Union‘ was pretty funny.
- What the New York Times got wrong about long-haul Amtrak travel by Freequent Flyer. Train travel always gets bad press, same with bus travel. There is something to be said for being able to go city center to city center without the crazy long wait times for security.
- Buzzard: Opening bank scene. I’m sure a lot of us can relate to this.

Here are some of the most popular posts from yesterday:
Can I ask you once again what was wrong with your original checking account? that’s irrelevant.
What I love about the video is it says everything we are thinking but don’t actually say out loud.
ROFL at that video! Love it. Also loved Flat Earth Credit Union! The little touches like “powered by hamsters” were quite smart.
Great video. The part that hit home to me was the small talk. I’ve been asked similar questions in branch, such as what I’m up to that day, where I work, how long I’ve lived here, etc. While the bank associate might say these questions are meant to initiate a “relationship”, or that the bank associate is otherwise just doing “her job”, or that they are trying to “make me feel comfortable”, I know that the ultimate goal is just to get to my money. I’m polite, but none of these questions are any of your business, and if you push me, I’ll tell you such.
Can you imagine going on a date with someone who you know is after your money, and who also asks you these questions? Would you also politely answer them then? If not, why answer them in the bank?
It’s time we treated banks for what they are, and not continue to play along with these “relationship” games.
You sound like a treat.
“Can you imagine going a date with someone who you know is after your money…” No. C’mon man.
Love the video. Just happen to be celebrating my 6 month anniversary.
Just signed up for Flat Earth CU
Wow, The Flat Earth CU accepts debit gift cards and credit cacrds as deposits!!
First half of that video hits home so well “Our customer service is so good, you’d wish we just shut up and did what you asked”
Would be interested to see how an “account manager” would handle the close/open. I’d guess they’d just say no and ask you to leave
What the banker might say, depends on the terms. This is why most banks say anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, or maybe lifetime, before partaking in a promotion again. City National Bank is making me go in branch, so I might be closing mine and have SO open an account.
Definitely funny video, although I have a hard time liking the guy… with his “doesn’t matter” comments. If I was the banker as soon as I got done I would be calling the temp’s boss at the other branch. I am such the curmudgeon!
Plus, I wish he would have said, not that he saw the checking offer in the window, but, I found this offer on Doctor Of Credit. LoL And, William Charles would walk in and say “hey dude, wait for a better offer. Nobody does in branch $50 offers, not even Gadget or Dan Legal Bank Robber”. Then JuicyJosh could call the guy on his free Sprint phone and say to sign-up online so he can fund with a credit card!
so you want to cheat the system for $50… ABSOLUTELY!!!
THIS made my day!!!!
The Flat Earth Credit Union website is better built than most other banks and credit unions I’ve joined in the last few months. Too bad there is no bonus :/
Yesterday’s recap had a link for Etihad partner travel on Travel is Free. Here is the follow up article. I found it extremely informative.
