KeyBank Cashback Card Now Released (1.5-2% Back On All Purchases)

Update 6/25/19: Card has now officially launched.

Keybank is rumored to be releasing a new card on June 28th, 2019.

Card Basics

  • Sign up bonus of $100 after spending $500 within the first 60 days of account opening
  • Card earns 1.5% on all purchases or 2% on all purchases if the following requirements are met:
    • Have a checking account with Keybank that has at least $1,000 in deposits a month
    • Maintain a minimum daily balance of $1,000 in either a savings or investment account
  • 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months

Our Verdict

Overall not exciting at all, small sign up bonus and plenty of other card issuers offer 2% cash back on all purchases (or more) with no requirements.

Not sure where all the other 2% cash back cards are he is talking about. Only one I know of without any requirements (Like Fidelity you need a Fidelity investment account or cash account) and that’s citi double cash. The 2% back beats chase freedom unlimited, capital one quicksilver, and any other card with 1.5% back, and yo7 don’t have to keep track of rotating categories like others. Your cash back is also available immediately unlike most other cards. This is a great card in my opinion, as long as you bank with key bank it should be easy to meet the requirements.

Unfortunately there is a 3% foreign transaction fee. But there is an interesting tidbit:
“Transactions originating in Canada are excluded from this fee”

If you didn’t have to be a Key Bank account holder I would consider this. I’ll sign up for any credit card with a cash bonus (I know DOC readers attack me for this) but I also only sign up for Bank Accounts with one as well.

For some reason Key Bank refuses to let their NYC branch have the offers they usually do with others.

Hopefully won’t have foreign transaction fees. Then it would be a good 2% card on everything when travelling.

The Penfed Power Cash Visa signature credit card has all that, 2% cash back on everything, no foreign transaction fees, no annual fees, anyone can join

the only real 2% cards are the Fidelity which must be linked to a Fidelity acct and the Citi double card. Some BOA are 3 % for online GCM purchase but limited each quarter. This could be good it they tolerate MS.

The PenFed Pathfinder (AmEx) earns points which are worth ~0.85 cents each, and has category bonuses. If one of the categories was 2x, that would be 1.7% like you’ve mentioned (but the categories are actually 1.5x and 3x or 4x, so 1.3% and 2.6% or 3.4%).

The PenFed Power Cash (Visa) that was mentioned earns straight cash back, at 1.5% or 2.0%. Minimum redemption is/was $5.
