Our Verdict

If a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is. The problem with this deal is that you get 1.9% of the points ($13.46) each week and the points are only valid 7 days. You gotta ask yourself do you really want to go to Sears once a week and purchase something that costs $13.46? My guess is no. If you could still roll points then this would be a great deal, but unfortunately that isn’t possible with this deal either. I guess if you’re earning a lot of points through Uber and other means and are already going in once per week then this deal could be useful but for the majority of readers this should be an easy pass.

Do you all realize that you only need to go pickup the items for the $13 a week every other week. Order online on Sat for last week’s points and order on Sunday for this week’s points….then go once and pick them up.

If you live near a Kmart you could buy some pantry or cleaning supplies every week. Gotta stop by there though.

These points can be used at Lands End also, but of course free shipping is not going to happen with an order totaling $13.46.

If you are in to gambling for Sears points, check out their new promotion this weekend for the Beat the Heat Challenge. Basically, if it hits 100 degrees at Raegan Airport, you get 100% back in points on freezer and AC units you bought this weekend. I thought this 52 week payout promotion was bad, but these are some crazy promos by sears.

I checked weather history. Last time it happened was in 1919.

Something to note is that it’s $699 for each appliance, so $1400 total if you’re getting the set. Still, Consumer Reports says the washer is one of the better top loading HE washers, and the dryer is pretty decent too.

Also I think you forgot a link to the offer. It’s on the Sears homepage so it’s fairly easy to find but you can see them here: http://www.sears.com/search=02626132000p%7C02666132000p%7C02676132000p

Can you use the points online? Does sears still have a “free shipping” plan?

Chris

Yeah, usually the points can be used online as long as it doesn’t say “in-store only” or something. They still offer a “free shipping” plan with Shop Your Way Max but it kind of sucks as the minimum order amount is still $35, the items just ship out faster. If you have a Sears or Kmart nearby you can pickup in store.

1.9% x 52 = 98.8%

I bet those Kenwood washers and dryers are rockin’.

But really, thanks for the post. Our local sears already closed so I’ve been avoiding these deals, but I could see this one working with a little effort. I second the idea of using a Citi card for the Price Rewind.

Totally. The reality is Sears is a holdings company/real estate company now more so than a retailer. Kenmore is made by a series of high-end brand names (from Wikipedia):

“As of 2017, Kenmore products are produced by manufacturers such as Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America, and Daewoo Electronics.”

Like Costco “Kirkwood” Brand coffees, liquors, paper towels, etc. most of these goods are basically just rebranded for resale.

That first line was a joke because the blog author accidentally wrote “Kenwood washer/dryer products” instead of Kenmore. Kenwood is a stereo company.

I’m not sure if your last line was a joke too or another accident, but “Like Costco “Kirkwood” Brand coffees…” should be Kirkland. 😉

+1 ah well, the newbie crowd like JE will revel in their “discoveries.” It’s soooo easy to “knowingly” pile on Sears (from street.com on up), circling in for the blood in the water….. Those vultures will n’re quite comprehend why lots of us who grew up with Sears still would like to see it somehow survive, who understand that Sears (da holding company! — wow, shazam, who’dathunkthat?) itself never ever “made” a thing, that Eddie Lampert is well, somewhere beneath Trump (on our contempt scale)…. and as long as Sears hangs on, we’re happy to imbibe all the free cash and super discounted SYW orders and those free points via Citi sears card too.

but don’t ask me about a recent nightmare of trying to return a screwed up SYW order…… when SYW works, it’s fabulous; when it’s not…. resign yourself to cursing Lampert in the dark. (then grinning when dawn comes)

what about finding a resellable go to product for around $13 to purchase every week? there must be something that would consistently resell and net you most of the money back.

Opportunity cost of time. It’ll take you at least a half hour in total, which means the deal is buying a $26/hr gig. Not terrible, but uhh, not that great RoI.

Agreed. Myself or my parents wouldn’t be caught dead reselling any items that are $10-15 dollars.

Again, they’ll need small goods like hand towels and soaps, so it’d be pretty easy to swing by once a week to grab these items.

Reselling $13 products is not profitable. Buy Tide at Kmart and call it a day.

Doc, I appreciate you posting any and all of these deals.

My parents just moved cross country and their new house is only a few miles from a physical Sears store. Not only have they been asking me for deals on a Washer/Dryer, but this may allow them to grab all sorts of household goods (pots, pans, vases, power tool bits, towels, soaps, detergents, etc.) over the next 52 weeks without any added costs.

If you’re going to do this, I suggest the following:

#1. Use a Citi credit card with Price Rewind. They haven’t devalued that yet so you have a max $500 in coverage. Set a watch script on the webpage for that product. It will drop by $100 or so after this promotion cycles out, most assuredly. Get cash refund on that amount.

#2. Use this coupon for an additional $60 off 499+ in home appliances: 9700084052662870

Thanks, Matt!

The coupon is especially helpful. I’ll read in to make sure it doesn’t void or affect any of the SYWR points at all.

I was thinking maybe using the CSR for increased Warranty Protection depending on if the Washer/Dryer comes with a Warranty under 3 years to extend it.

Lots of options. All good info.

Citi adds a 2 year extension to warranties.

It will reduce your purchase price and thus reduce your SYW points by an equal $60. So you’ll lose $5/month in points from using it but pay $60 less in cash now.

I hope people aren’t opening a personal card just to get an interest free loan on a washer/dryer. I understand if it’s the Amex BB+ and you’re MSing 50k then parking it for a year but not for a washer or dryer.
