Sears: Up to 6% Cash Back on Sears Gift Cards from Many Portals [12/20-12/22 only]

Cash Back on Gift Cards

Sears is offering a three-day promotion to payout portal rewards on gift cards, from 12/20/16 – 12/22/16.

This is being advertised explicitly on many portals such as Ebates, Givingassistant, Topcashback, Shopatehome, Mrrebates, etc. Mileage portals aren’t yet mentioning this promo explicitly.

Givingassistant offers 7% portal cashback Update: Givingassistant is actually just 3% on gift cards.

Ebates, Topcashback, Shopathome offer 6%. All options here. It might be worth sticking with a portal who mentions it clearly. (Upromise and Befrugal offer 6% or 7% but exclude gift cards. Yazing isn’t clear as to how much they’ll pay on gift cards.)

All the portals say that this gift card promotion is for three days, 12/20 – 12/22.

Here is from Ebates:

Stack with Amex

There’s currently an Amex Offer to get $10 off $50 at Sears, and the offer will work on Sears e-gift cards and reloads. Portals were working for reloads, but they stopped working earlier this month.

Under this three-day promotion, gift cards will earn portal rewards. That should include physical gift cards, e-gift cards, and reloads. But don’t buy physical cards with the Amex Offer since it won’t work to trigger the Amex credit, although it should work for the portal credit.

There’s also some resale potential since Sears gift cards are currently selling for up to 84%. That’s a 4% profit. Add this extra 6-7% from the portal and you’ll net 10-11% ($5 or $5.50) plus points on each Amex Offer, if all works out.

So it turns out it wasn’t so bad to delay after all.  🙂

Can you buy VGC in Sears stores using Sears GC? Any DPs?

Aahz

Policy says no, but it’s not hard-coded in the registers, so YMMV.

YMMV store to store. My store has no problem with it. I either get $100 Amazons or $200 VGCs (Sunrise, $7)

I bought probably 5 $200 VGC’s total with a couple $500 Sears gift cards back when Discover was paying out 10% CB on GC reloads and doubled for first year back in August 2015. It was very YMMV, I think 2 cashiers didn’t bother to check if it was a Sears GC and 4 did.

Have you ever used a Sears eGC to buy 3rd party gc in Sears? How about Kmart?

Did any of the 4 that checked still allow the transaction to go through?

Gerald

My local Sears won’t even accept credit cards for VGCs!

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. Procrastination paid off!

Be cautious with GA, it says up to 7%. In fine print that category is solely for jewelry. How can you be sure what rate GA will specifically pay out?

Sears cancels every single e-gift card order I attempt to buy despite having to call them and go through their stupid security checks. Happens every frigging time. Deal is useless to me.

Any idea if this includes reloads?

I have had good luck buying 3rd party gift cards in my local Sears using Sears gift cards to pay. But I have heard that not all stores allow this.

Have you ever tried a Sears eGC to buy 3rd party gc in Sears? How about Kmart?

I’ve bought lots with physical w/o issue, but ran into issues with the eGC- it’s not hardcoded but had a manager called over which created a big hassle and felt the need to lay low for a long time afterwards. I think the big difference was that they had to manually enter the card numbers.

Does a Kmart physical gc work just as well as a Sears physical gc does to purchase 3rd party gc in Sears?

How do you know Giving Assistant will pay out at the 7%?

From GA:
2% on Appliances, Auto, Fitness & Sporting Goods, Health & Beauty, Home, Lawn & Garden, Mattresses, Tools, Toys, Marketplace
4% on Apparel, Footwear
1% on Electronics
7% on Fine Jewelry
0% on Gift Cards
0% on Marketplace Apple products

Exclusions: no cash back when redeeming or buying a gift card, no cash back on installation or service fees

Bob
Bob

GivingAssistant just gave me $1.50 for my $50 reload of my Sears gift card. That’s 3%.

Just tried to order one, and got an email from Sears saying they need to review my order and an associate might get in touch with me to confirm some order details. Is this normal? Will my order be cancelled?

jim
jim

The same happened to me. I decided to call customer service instead of waiting and they were able to transfer me to the security/fraud department. My order was approved after a couple verification questions (name, email, order #) and I received the GC shortly after

John

Thanks for the tip, called and got all 5 of my orders processed within an hour.

Got the same email earlier today but just got the gift card via email without having to call.

I had the same thing happen to me on all 16 orders…. 16 gift card emails and 16 review emails all without contacting support. All GC game within an hour of ordering.

Gerald

That seems to be SOP with these. Just ignore it.

I tried TCB and GA yesterday on reloads. Nothing tracked so far, not even at 0%. Not sure if I am doing this wrong? Go to http://www.sears.com/sears-gift-cards.html and click “Check balance & reload” to proceed?

I usually have no problems with cookies and actual transactions tracking.

Ted
Ted

Some 12/20 and 12/21 transactions have now shown up at TCB at 6%

Does anyone else have issues with getting through the damn reCAPTCHA when checking and reloading a giftcard? When I call in I have a balance. When I go through the website and hit check balance and reload, it says I am not entering a valid gift card number and pin.

Ebates down to 1.5%

chris

Yup. Hit harder than they thought apparently. TCB is now best at 3%?

TG

CB from Ebates still hasn’t posted for a purchase made on 12/20. Has it posted for anyone else?

TCB down to 3%

Did anyone get any tracking emails from SAH today? It seems to be lagging more than usual. BTW, their rate is only 3% now.

Joe

None of my 6 transactions from 12/20 on TopCashBack posted for me. Sigh.
