Sears Mastercard Conversion

Some Sears cardholders are seeing the following messaging after logging in:

Your Sears Mastercard is currently being converted to your new Shop Your Way Mastercard

To be honest I’m not sure what this actually means. It’s not clear if this is affecting Sears cards that don’t earn Shop Your Way points, or if something else is at play here.

My Sears card does not display this message on login and it is not the version that earns SYW points.

Some people who DO already have the SYW card that earns SYW points are seeing this message, though. Sounds like some wires got seriously crossed.

Do you get the insane spending rebates on it as well? $250 statement credits every month this year for me. (10% grocery/dining). Best cc out there.

It’s been that way for us since last Aug, 11 months. Been sweeeet! First couple months wasn’t 250, but we will hit a total of 2250 cb after this month.

I got the replacement card two months ago, it earns a lot of points if you purchase gas and all points go directly to your SYW account, pretty straight forward. You don’t have to do anything, this card came in by mail and you only have to activate it.

Anything related to Eddie Lampert is a mess.

i converted from the citi SYW card to the TY card about 6 months ago and i have the message. It’s a little annoying. CSR doesn’t even know what it means.

I got a letter stating:
We want you to be aware of changes we are making to your Sears Mastercard ending in XXXX.

We are Changing the Terms of Your Account
The enclosed Notice of Changes in Terms to your Card Agreement describes the changes to your account terms and what they mean to you and your account.

We Are Changing Your Card Product
We are changing the name of the card from Sears Mastercard to Shop Your Way Mastercard. Your account number WILL BE CHANGING. Later, you will receive a new card in the mail, blah blah blah.

The big issue for me is the account # change. Last time a card issuer did this (GE/Synchrony Carecredit to the Carecredit Mastercard), this caused the new account to show up as a NEW account, thus pushing me over 5/24 for Chase purposes.

When Citi changes your number from one MC to another type of MC, the history will likely carry over. Synchrony’s explanation is that when you are upgraded from a private label (store) card to a “Dual Card”, the extra capabilities of being able to use the credit card outside of the one store/network justifies that it is a new account.

I think I’m caught up in this. Has anyone had luck changing their Sears SYW card to earn TYP recently? I got the card in May, made some purchases and paid them off this month. I called in repeatedly and keep getting the run around that they no longer allow changing to TYPs. I called about 5 reps, 1 said they were able to unenroll me from SYW but on calling back I was told i’m still in the program because they assigned me a new card.

I similarly have tried to switch the rewards from SYW to TYP and have been told that is no longer an option since June. Something must have changed in the relationship/agreement between Citi and Sears at that time.

Apparently someone tried to access my account over the phone so they locked it. I am being issued a new card which will be the SYW version however since my rewards are currently with TYP I get to keep those going forward.

Received my replacement card today but it’s still the same Sears Citi Mastercard. Perhaps they haven’t started the conversion to the SYW cards yet.

Finally received my new card. It’s almost identical to the old one except for the account number. The only other difference I see is that the card now says “Transform Holdco” which is the name of the new holding company Eddie Lampert created, instead of “Sears Holdings” on it. I guess the “conversion” was mainly for legal reasons?
