Shop Your Way Rewards: Uber Now Limited To $20 Per Month/$1 Per Ride

Shop Your Way Rewards is making changes to the Uber partnership. Previously there was no cap on the amount of points you could earn monthly,  they are now capping that at a maximum of $20 per month. You’ll also earn $1 back in points per ride, so basically a maximum of 20 rides per month will result in a credit. Previously they sometimes offered up to $4 per ride, so it’ll be interesting to see if they still offer those targeted bonuses or not.

Well, that gravy train had to come to an end sometime I guess. I was making about $20/week on it before. Glad they’re not shutting it down altogether at least.

veeRob

Just on regular Uber rides or did you have a hack?

Matt

You don’t need to hack Sears lol they just give away money all the time. SYW is the best. I forgive them they need to stay in business so they can keep giving away points.

As for your question, I commute with Uber because my total monthly commute expenses are less than car insurance + gas alone, and I can layer on cc and other rewards angles. I mean, Pei is giving $2/ride ($5/day cap) in rewards for Uber and lyft right now. That stacks with Ibotta/acorns rebate. Stacks with Spent/Thanks Again/etc. That stacks with SYWR. That stacks with credit card discounts/redemptions/gift cards. My situation is not typical but when it works, it works.

Given how subsidized rideshare is in the first place these additional layers really make it lucrative. When SYW was doing $5/ride bonuses for holidays I was taking many short trips lol. Profit on each one.

Yep! Went and picked up packages via Uber at the post office (usually a 10 minute walk) with the $5 holiday bonuses.

Matt What a way to earn the rewards/cashback. Great.
Is Pei giving $2 per every ride with no minimum fare? I see in my app, the offer is $2 on $20.

Matt

Well, they were until Monday lol. Mine just changed to 2 off 20 as well for both Uber and lyft. LAME. (But totally expected)

@Matt What is your PEI referral code?

Rankmyride also stacks on top of any other deal you get. It’s crazy how using a car service can be profitable.

Matt

Wow I didn’t even know about that! Thanks!

Same. I was making over $20 a week on my company paid commutes for about two years. So now once I hit the cap I would use Lyft instead.

Not so sure they aren’t shutting it down soon, there’s some terms in there that reference “Offer valid 03/26/2019 – 05/31/2019” I wouldn’t be surprised the program shuts down on May 31, with Uber IPO forthcoming and SYW future continuing to be in doubt.

But yes, it was a great gravy train, got some actual nice furniture out of it.

Matt

Maybe. I think they’re going to be making a lot of changes to the business now and want to preserve flexibility. Lampert has mentioned redemptions outside the Sears ecosystem being a possibility. Will definitely be interesting to see what happens.

I have a feeling Pei might go the same route soon

Matt

Yeah I don’t expect it will last forever. Maybe a few more months until they get more users.

Matthew
Matthew

Oh that is why i did not receive any points after 03/20

Matt

Oh yeah me either. The new terms started in 3/26 tho. Might be worth calling SYW about the week before. They’re pretty nice with points credits.

me too , did any one called ? I tried emailing but no response

To save money with Uber, I bough the referral credit which cost me $4 and I will get ride up to $10 free. It stacks with Ibotta and SYW

San

Matthew Can you explain how referral credit works with cost ? Thanks

Matthew
Matthew

You open uber app -> Free rides to see how much you will get for each refer. Basically the seller will do It so you get the credit.
email me if you need info

Was nice while it lasted. Was great for international Uber fares, like in Mexico where most Uber rides cost around $2 anyway, so a 100% rebate. When Kmart closed near me a few months back, this became a lot less worthwhile anyway.

Matt

Lol. They never did sort out how to make it only work on US-based rides. I used it a bunch in Europe last year as well. Love my business expenses.

Matthew

I went to Vietnam last year and 1 Motobike ride only cost $1-2. Even made money by traveling by Uber. Lol

Damn I was making 100+ each month and now this and Uber Ibotta both coming to an end. I have acorns and freebirds now

Kmarts and sears are about to die out in my area anyway…

Matt

They just survived bankruptcy. Hopefully they pull through I really don’t want SYW to die. Best rewards program ever.

the last couple of weeks it worked on Uber eats orders for me. Not to mention when I was getting $4 off per ride from Uber pool and coming out ahead on the commute to the office with $2 SYWR. And the $5 SYwR bonus that worked on pool! Was able to buy pretty much all of our shipping and office supplies on SYWR the past 15 mo thanks to Uber, well over $1500 SYWR.

Jenna

They completely stopped rewarding me on pool rides over a year ago. I have no idea why me and no one else’s but yeah

I hope they make it so your rewards don’t expire than. Gonna suck I had this for year and half. I got so much free stuff. May need to see what others offer than. Got $180 worth of stuff for my husband today. And still got $95 in rewards. This $20 cap sucks I can do that in a week. Looks like uber is loosing some business. Weather is getting better so I can walk to bus stop. Instead

This deal sucks even worse than you think now. I just shopped on sears. I had 44.63 saved up for 2 months….points expire after 2 months so you can only max at 40 dollars with this new deal. WELL…its 59 dollars to qualify for free shipping….AND your points applied dont count towards free shipping dollars. AND….they chop up the shipping into two separate orders for 6.50 a piece for 13.00 and you pay about 3 dollars tax. Bottom line…best deal with sears….save for 2 months…get 40 dollars in stuff but you are going to have to pay an additional 15 dollars in shipping and tax….BEST DEAL. Bottom line is this ‘shop your way uber’ thing has turned to crap.

It’s ending at the end of this month! Such crap.
