Credit Cards

Signup Link for MERRILL+ 50k Offer is Gone

A lot of people jumped on the Merrill + Visa 50,000 points signup bonus, worth $500-$1,000. Unfortunately, both signup links people were using (this and this) are no longer working and show a message that “The application you are requesting is currently unavailable.”

I called the number shown on the screen and the agent was able to locate the application, but was ‘unable to see’ any bonus details, which I assume to mean there wouldn’t be a bonus.

No idea if signup links will come back or will come back without a bonus. If anyone finds a working link or finds a bonus offer in-branch, let us know.

Hat tip to @milesforfamily and Bob

    Chuck, Did you mean Merrill+?

  2. Dima says:

Glad I didn’t procrastinate this time and got the card a week or so ago 🙂

  3. Mark O says:

Dang 🙁 Got the wife one but was going for my own in a month or two….I thought it had been reported we had almost a year left. I hope it comes back.

Did you mention the priority code while applying?

    • Chuck says:

      Nope, what is that?

      • EricAstray says:

Nvm. From the cached website it says “To apply for a credit card by phone, please call 1-866-422-8087 and a personal service representative will help you. Please mention priority code VACSTX.”
I tried but CS said she couldnt find this code, and the application she pulled for Merrill+ does NOT have the 50K bonus points offer

  5. Kevin says:

It was always intended for Merrill clients only. My guess is no, a public link won’t be back.

  6. irshad says:

Just curious if the rewards will be given to those already approved.

  7. Jake says:

Haha guess that takes it off my list.. had been debating grabbing it right before my trip in a few weeks.

Wow, I decided to try again on this card yesterday morning and they flagged it as a duplicate because I applied in December. But I had a nice lady on the phone, she got it ready and came back with approval. Finally got the elusive Merrill+. I then tried to tack on BBR and Travel Rewards. BBR was tough sledding but after three recon calls, got a really nice guy who helped me out, and approved the BBR as well. Submitted the TR app late yesterday with the single pull but one recon call today was a very firm no. I may wait for the letter and try again, but probably won’t push my luck further. Want to get back on BofA’s good side (lot of cards with them 2016). I opened savings last month to help with personal card apps. I referenced it on all recon calls, so maybe it helped.

Thanks for making us aware of this great card, DoC!

    • Nus says:

BTW Did you get a 1099 from BoA for credit card bonuses in 2016? I know they should be non-taxable, but there was some discussion that BoA would issue 1099s anyway.

      • Darv says:

Yes, did received 1099-INT from BofA BUT, only for a personal checking bonus and business checking bonus. Nothing reported for the rebates or relationship bonuses.

Which makes sense, that is not income. That is rebates on purchases.

        • Nus says:

Thanks. Sounds like you just got exactly the 1099 you should expect, for the checking bonuses, not the credit card bonuses. I was just asking because I was reading discussion that they would (wrongly) send out 1099s for credit card bonuses (and/or cash back and/or relationship bonuses), but the lack of people reporting this makes me think this didn’t happen after all.

        • Eric says:

Did you have over $600 in credit card bonuses (including relationship bonuses) deposited in your BAC checking account?

    • Welcome, glad to hear you got it.

Partner applied last week and went pending and then approved. Email from BoA says her card is on its way.

I applied earlier this week, was still pending as of yesterday (approved for Alaska instantly). Now when I check on my applications it doesn’t show any records (not even the Alaska one). Related? Maybe.

  10. Andy says:

I just called reconsideration and got it approved from my application yesterday. Do you think the bonus will still be attached to my account? Anyone with experience on something like this?

  11. Heather says:

What kind of relationship do you have to have with Merrill to legitimately apply?

  12. Nik says:

    I have 9 chase coupons for $500 checking/savings bonus expiring Mar/7/2017.

I will let Will decide how he wants to give them out. I could just list them here (or mail them to him)

  13. nnapper says:

i called merrill and they said that i would need to apply in person at branch.

  14. P says:

Well glad I didn’t wait. Just got an email my card shipped today

For those with the bonus points and who fly Alaska, book any $500 flight twice using the 50K+ points and then cancel the flights and drop the $1000 credit into your Alaska wallet.

My wife and I did that with our cards and accumulated $2K. We then booked two outrageously expensive nonstops from Seattle to the Big Island over the fourth of July ($996 each) and used our B of A Alaska Visa companion passes to have the whole family go for $240 all-in for what would otherwise have been a shade under $4K. We had already booked 6 nights at the Fairmont Orchid in an exec suite using Chase’s now defunct Fairmont 2 free nights X 3 cards = 6 nights. Those retailed out at $6K and now we’re just picking up the $180 in resort fees.

This game is a lot of fun if you play it right and get really, really lucky with application timing.

If the Merrill bonus comes back and you fly Jetblue or Alaska, use the wallet trick.

  16. Sean says:

Shoot, had this on my list and was going to get to it. Oh well.

  17. Curmudgeon says:

There’s a link on reddit saying the deal is back on, if you apply over the phone but the bonus has dropped to 25,000 points.

  18. Div says:

I just called (866-751-1257)) and submitted an application over the phone. Rep said the bonus offer is 50k/3k currently. My application went to review, rep mentioned within 30 days they would inform me about my application decision.

Should I call the recon line for the decision? or should I wait?
