SmileDirectClub: Book A Free 30 Minute 3D Scan & Get $50 Amazon Giftcard & Whitening Pen

Update 2/10/10: Get a $50 Amazon gift card with promo code MISSYOU50. Hat tip to reader Varun

The Offer

Direct link to offer (doesn’t display until you add the promo code)

  • SmileDirectClub is offering a free bright on ™ light and whitening pen and a $25 Amazon gift card when you book a free 30 minute 3D scan with the promo code MAILSCAN25

Our Verdict

Seems like an easy way to get a $25 gift card, although I am sure they ask for a lot of information and not sure how bad the hard sell is after the scan is done. Obviously do your own research before even considering actually using a product like this – I’ve heard very mixed reviews.

The $50 worked for me. Got it almost immediately after finishing the appointment. They’re def a bit heavy with the sales pitch (acting like you already bought it from the beginning and asking you to look in the mirror and talk about what you would change), but they did it nicely and weren’t pushy when I told them I wasn’t going to do it. The 3D scan also looked kinda cool if you’re a techie nerd like me.

Just FYI, I wish I read this before I had gotten my appointment,, even though I got $50 in Amazon credit and a free teeth whitening kit. They almost convinced me to consider treatment, so beware.

From the article above: SmileDirectClub has been the subject of more than 1,670 Better Business Bureau complaints since 2014. In contrast, Align Technology, which makes the Invisalign teeth aligners that people get through orthodontists and that has been in business for more than two decades, has had five complaints.

1500 Rakuten points stacked with the $50 Amazon GC
Checked cashbackmonitor before pulling the trigger, and saw Rakuten offering 1500 MR, so clicked through and signed up for this deal. Checked a couple hours later and 1500MR points are showing on Rakuten already and received an email confirming I’ll receive the $50 GC after completing the scan (scheduled for later this week).
Stack it up!

I can’t even log into the account anymore, before I could. Now, I forgot what card I used. I did call to reschedule, to next week. She said she sent an email but never got it. Maybe I should just tell them what last 4 card I use or just go in huh?

Took about 45 min in total, received an email with a link to retrieve my $50 Amazon card about 30 min later. Easy, and the camera/technology is actually wicked cool! They did bring in someone to try to “close” the sale, but there wasn’t too much pressure. I just said it was a lot of cash and I had to think a bit/check for insurance coverage.

Almost identical experience with you except my 50$ gift card came within 2 hours instead 30 to 45 minutes normally. Didn’t buy any plan. They gave me the free gift with a bag.

Does anyone know if I need to actually spend my Amazon $ in order for the Amazon card to be “drained” and clear of worry that the company can somehow cxl the value on the card?

Did two today. Appt took 45min and 1hour; gift card in my inbox 30 min and then 45 min after the appt, and loaded into my Amazon acct. No ID ever taken, I didn’t even have to recite my alternate phone number verbally. Considered doing a third but they said my teeth images will be reviewed by a dentist and they will send me images to my inbox of what they will look like straightened. I asked if this was automated or done by a human dentist and was told human. I doubt he has a clue, but just in case, I didn’t want to puss said dentist off with my real legal name being listed 3 times in the same day. Though it would have been an interesting data point to see if it really does get reviewed by a human! Hoping that with 2 spots, they’ll see I was milking it but let it go. There’s a chance I might consider this service- I actually have been shopping around for mild orthodontic care.

Some things are better in person did you use 2 different locations or the same one? I’m on #3 now and don’t want to double dip, only so many of these tho

I used two different locations, same day.

I’d be concerned I’d get the same salesperson. I suppose one could call that day, as if you have a question, and see who’s working, and book that same day. Beware that they link the phone number you call them on to your account. I called in about my 14 year old son and learned this.

I was told that a dentist would review my info before an actual offer was sent to my e-mail, and I didn’t want to puss some reviewer off if they saw my name 3 times in one day, so stayed at two sites. I now feel pretty confident that it is probably just computer generated, or the person clicking send doesn’t pay attention to seeing the same name or same set of teeth twice on the same day.

I also feel confident that this is a risky service, mostly sales based, so have no qualms about taking their money. I am actually in the market for braces and have consulted two actual orthodontists in the past month for estimates. Both insisted that I see a periodontist if I wanted to proceed to make sure it would be safe, as I have some serious recession. And both said there wasn’t enough room for the teeth to look good in the front- they would buck out to fit if straightened. One said straight to not do it, another suggested shaving the sides of my teeth to make them fit together. No one suggested anything like this from my 2 smile direct appts. Of course, the people I met were just sales people. I have no idea if you actually pay money if a live doctor ever looks at your account, like they claim, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Scheduled an appt yesterday for today using code MISSYOU50 . Website asked for a credit card to hold appt, I used a prepaid gc (with $0 balance) and it worked. Appt only took 15 min, and i got the teeth whitening kit, lip balm, and some floss on the way out. I got the $50 amazon gc in my email 1.5 hours after my appt started.

Appointment was easy, quick, and fun. No hard sells done (I quickly and clearly declined to sign up) and $50 Amazon gc showed up in email promptly after. Thanks doc!

I got an appointment with them and went through the process everyone else did. Now my dentist said smile direct methods move too fast and it’s not good for the roots. The smile direct agent said traditional braces move too fast. It was all very confusing. I left signed up for the plan even though I said I was going to talk it over with my wife and talk to my insurance. They told me I had 72 hours to call and cancel and so I ended up doing so later. Unfortunately Tricare does not help pay for smile direct and i got a hard no from my wife. Not a bad deal for 30 minutes of my time overall. Hat tip to author.

Pretty easy promo. Lots of appointments were available & the office visit was simple. Clearly, they have a script to go through to sell you on it, but I just told them I wasn’t ready to commit to it at the time. Got my freebie bag as I left & $50 GC less than an hour after my appointment.
