SmileDirectClub: Book A Free 30 Minute 3D Scan & Get $50 Amazon Giftcard & Whitening Pen

Update 2/10/10: Get a $50 Amazon gift card with promo code MISSYOU50. Hat tip to reader Varun

The Offer

Direct link to offer (doesn’t display until you add the promo code)

  • SmileDirectClub is offering a free bright on ™ light and whitening pen and a $25 Amazon gift card when you book a free 30 minute 3D scan with the promo code MAILSCAN25

Our Verdict

Seems like an easy way to get a $25 gift card, although I am sure they ask for a lot of information and not sure how bad the hard sell is after the scan is done. Obviously do your own research before even considering actually using a product like this – I’ve heard very mixed reviews.

Your appointment is FREE.
However due to limited availability and slots booking up fast, we require a credit card to hold your spot. As long as you show up or reschedule before your appointment, you will not be charged the $25.00 no-show fee. We look forward to seeing you.

When I went through the process and didn’t complete it with a credit card, it told me they’d let me do it without a credit card.

TIP: Do not use your primary e-mail or phone number; use a burner e-mail & Google Voice. They will get their $25 worth and more by spamming and calling you.

I second this. Do the first screen (name, email, cell). Go to second screen and just press submit (without filling it in). It’ll let you continue and you’ll get a confirmation page.

Close the browser window on this page. the booking still stays confirmed. I got an email saying they waived the credit card requirement

I already have braces on my teeth currently….so I’m definitely not able to buy SmileDirect. But I might still try this to get the free $25 haha.

No my teeth didnt qualify for the scan. They first take pictures of your teeth. I would have to get a cleaning first.

I won one of these kits from them in a sweepstakes. If it’s the exact same one then it comes with a generic mouthpiece that has a usb cable running off it. It has a blue led strip inside the mouthpiece which will activate the hydrogen peroxide solution in the stick. The solution will whiten on it’s own to some degree but the blue light helps to really get it going. Basically you brush as normal then apply the pen to the front visible teeth, put in the mouthpiece and let it sit for 5 minutes twice a day. You are supposed to not eat or drink for 20 minutes after the procedure as “it continues to whiten even after the solution has been absorbed.”

It will whiten your teeth but they will still look natural white and not Simon Cowell’s glow in the dark teeth. Those require the heavy duty stuff they use at the dentist. You can also pick up additional whitening sticks at the local dollar tree if you have one. It’s probably available elsewhere as well. The list price on my kit was around $125 which is in no way realistic but depending on what they want to charge you the kits (free in this case) will lighten your teeth up nicely and remove any hard stains the whitening toothpaste just have not been able to touch. I’ll admit I used a whitening pre-rinse and whitening toothpaste in combination with the kit. Hope the info helps.

The blue light does nothing to activate the peroxide’s. Perodixes are already active and whiten your teeth on their own. The blue light is a Gimik. Research it, no research papers showing lights have anything to do with whitening…take it from a dentist that is actively looking for the best way to whiten my patient’s teeth

…and then they wrote.
We waived the credit card booking requirement for you and your appointment is completely free.

I booked it. I am too greedy to let pass an opportunity for free stuff lol.

I already have braces on my teeth so buying the product is impossible…should I still schedule this? lol. Maybe if I call in and tell them I already have braces they won’t require me to come in but I’ll still get the $25 Amazon GC?

:)
:)

I think you still need to go there to get the $25 gc.

I did this when they offered it on Black Friday for a 50 dollar Amazon gift card and it also came with an additional 8 whitening pens free as well. They definitely try to sell you on the product multiple times a day by text and email for at least a month. They start off with 100 dollars off the aligners but if you’re actually interested in signing up, wait until they offer you 250 off. That will come about a month after your visit. To this day I still get emails from them but less frequent thankfully.

Did this deal already. Didn’t have to put in my CC, screen didn’t even pop up for it. Went in next day. They definitely try to sell it but my experience wasn’t pushy. I just told them I had to think about it and they said OK, gave me my whitening pen and lip balm and I left. Got the Amazon GC same day i believe, a couple hours later.

I did this and got gift card no problem.
Be warned if you sign the digital form during meeting, ( guy did it very casually to me) and you had your credit card prefilled for the appointment, they will most likely approve you asap and try to bill you for the amount that you agreed to.

There is no way to remove your card on their website, unless you replace it with another card in the payments section.

I put a freeze on my amex card and had it replaced so no harm done, but didn’t want anyone else to fall into that trap.

Basically just don’t sign any forms.

Dean

This just happened to me but I froze my CC before anything posted. Did replacing the card allow you to cancel any payments or did you had to call them. I don’t see any option to opt-out of their services. 😐

PSA…My wife works in a Smile Direct office. I’d just say unless you really, really need this then it might not be the best idea. The employees get docked for every person who doesn’t buy and it affects how many hours they are scheduled. Too many of these type of visits and they will be off the schedule or getting their hours reduced. Please only go if you are somewhat interested in the product. Thanks!

Your wife should stop working for such a terrible company

Maybe not working for Smile Direct is the solution. Unemployment Rates are at 50 year lows, so there are options out there.

Imagine working at a company, getting fired because of a stupid marketing promo, and then people give you shit because they don’t like the company. #America

Anyone have any experience with the actual teeth straightening service? Been thinking about actually doing this or one of the other similar services.

I know everyone have seen and heard of SmileDirectClub but it seems like their practices are a bit shady:

Please go to a licensed dental professional for your dental care. Someone who puts their name on their front door and takes pride in the work they do and the relationships they develop in their community. Why would you entrust the health of your teeth to a greedy corporation who only cares about their bottom line? Companies like this need to be shutdown for the good of the public.

As opposed to orthodontists that use the greedy corporation Invisalign where the aligners are made in Mexico for pennies on the dollar while charging patients $5000-$8000?

Jeff
Jeff

Nike shoes are made for pennies in Mexico but I don’t see anyone complaining about how much their Jordan’s cost….also you are not paying $5,000 for aligners, you are paying $5k for an orthodontist to straighten your teeth correctly and not ruin your mouth/teeth in the process. Go google failed Smile Direct cases and you will see what can happen when done incorrectly… if you have a problem SDC makes you sign an NDA and then give you a refund. Let an Orthodontist try something like that and there will be a practice ending lawsuit

Irony, thy name is Kevin…… Been a while since I heard a dentist and their chumpions wailing about the greed, the greeeeed (imagine) of anyone who might dare get in on their deeply corrupt, despicable realm…..

(say that remembering well kind, yet rare exceptions to the general rule…. til I remember my wife tomorrow is getting a “simple” crown that will set us back $400 — even with insurance paying more than “half.”)

I did this today, in NYC.

Staff was a little pushy – in that they spoke as if setting up a payment was the only option, you can just tell them you’ll think about it.

I received the gift card by email about 30 minutes after the appointment. They also gave me a canvas tote, stress ball, and the advertised whitening thingy.

Phill
Phill

I think that stress ball is lip balm. I thought the same thing at first….lol

I went in to the Beverly hills location today. They didn’t let me do the free 3D scan unless I agreed to “start” some treatment wtf? I did get a free whitening kit and a tote bag. Not sure if me not doing the 3D scan affects my amazon gift card… will wait and see if I get it. The people working there were pushy as fk and had an ego so I couldn’t be bothered to push for the scan to ensure my gift card.

KLUE
KLUE

I accepted early in the BH process that this was a waste of time. Didn’t tell me I could get the card until my scans were approved by doctor. Didn’t want to do scans until I said I’m ready to commit to $2k price.

Visit one of their office today, give me the kit… but I forgot and they didn’t mention the gc… shall I expect a link from email or text? Thx

GC should come automatically in email.
I went in for the $25 but have to echo the sentiments about going to a professional orthodontist. 1) they train for years to do this the right way. The Smile Direct I went in to looked like a sorority party. 2) they can identify any other oral health issues, i.e. if you have some sort of perio issue or disease, straightening the teeth with trays without comprehensive care will cause far more harm than good. 3) a good and professional doctor won’t try to “sell” you on the treatment plan (my Smile Direct was very pushy. Good thing I’m the type of person who can so no very easily in situations like these, timeshare presentations, etc). In investing there are products designed to be “bought,” meaning they present tremendous value for the client and stand on the own merits, such as Vanguard index funds, and products designed to be “sold,” meaning they are not a good deal and the salesman or broker earns his commission and living on “selling” you a product you might be better off without, such as whole life insurance or an actively managed fund with load fee and high expense ratio. Smile Direct falls into the latter category.

Same here as well, no email for the GC so far from them , I did talk to their online chat and they said it would take 24-48 hours so who knows

Did you ever get your GC? Been a few hours and I’m still waiting.
