[Expired] Staples: No Activation Fee On $200 Visa Gift Card Purchase (8/2-8/8), Limit 5

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Staples stores are selling $200 Visa gift cards with no activation fees from 8/2/20-8/8/20.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 5 per customer
  • Valid 8/2/20-8/8/20
  • In-store only

Our Verdict

We saw this a few weeks ago on Mastercard gift cards, now seeing it on Visa gift cards.   Use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases.

Stores around my house already ran out on Sunday morning right after they were opened. I suspect that they did not want to sell as it also happened couple of weeks ago with MC promotion. When you need VG, MC is loaded or vice versa. If you dont want people to come to buy it with promotion, then dont run promotion. I called couple of stores on Sunday before driving there and nobody had VG $200 at all. I’d rather go 1/day at OD than 1/person or 5/person at Staples.

Went one store, all 200$ visa gone, not wanting to empty handed, detour to another staples, Manager Karen accused me already bought 10k last week and said more vgc for me, when i said let’s check your store camera and call corp office, she said no time, then asked me my license and what gift cards use for later, she sold me just one after i showed my license and credit card i plan to use. I guess every store has its own policy.

she can’t make up her own rules lol who tries to turn customers away after corporate advertises to get more ppl in? this is a completely different promotion so that “limit 1 per customer” rule doesn’t apply.

Bought the last one at one store and the other store was already out. Do they ever resupply during the middle of a sale week?

Anyone ever taken a stack of the cards off the rack the day before the sale and hidden them somewhere in the store to draw from the next week in case they sell out on the rack?

Staples in MD said per their district manager and apparently corporate as well (??) that it’s limit 1, which obviously isn’t true everywhere given that others in comments were able to get 5. Guess it just depends where you are and perhaps the county I’m in is doing things differently.

I’ve been getting 5 the past couple days, but went in tonight and manager mentioned he thinks he received email today from corporate about changing the limit to 1. so i think its possible a communication got sent out today (Wednesday) telling them to lower the limit. I’ll probably try again tomorrow and see how it goes

My local one in texas has a sloppy printout saying they are temporarily not activating any gift cards. I’m wondering whats that about. been that way for weeks. no other store nearby so I guess i’m out of luck this time.

Did anyone buy the variable load cards and get the no fees? Or is this only the fixed $200 load? The variable cards are so easy to find in store!

I bought 5 on mon-tues-wedsday. Buying 5 more thursday and friday.
My store had no variable load cards but a ton of fixed $200 cards

Limit 5 per household. Learned the hard way when P2 came along with me.

the ad explicitly says 5 per customer per day. so that’s a store making its own rules

I picked up 5 and my wife picked up 5. The gift card rack at my local Staples was looking pretty empty about an hour after the store opened today. I’m guessing that the $200 Visas probably were cleaned out by noon. It’s funny, my Office Depot and OfficeMAX stores never run out of cards and lately their deals have had a negative cost.

Almost sold out if not sold out by now for my area, the same cashier as last time checked me out. He seemed a little salty that I only bought these and candy, but i feel they served the purpose to get me in to buy something. I never completely understand the negative attitudes towards these kind of things.

Any promotion at Office Depot? Staples is too far away for me.
