Our Verdict
GasBuddy requires you to pay with their payment card (and you link your checking account to that card) so you’re losing out on the credit card rewards there. $0.50 back in points will outweigh 5% cash back on a rewards card for most people. That being said setting this up will be a lot of effort, too much for most people. It would really get interesting if you could redeem Fuel Rewards to reduce the cost of your gas first and then still get the $0.50 back. If anybody has tried this type of stacking, let me know in the comments below.

When I pay with the Gas Buddy payment card will I get the “cash” price or the “credit” price at the gas station?

Probably Credit, because the station will be paying processing fees that go to GasBuddy to pay for the cashback.

I have already been super stacking fuel rewards with
.06 off/gal linked to IHG
.10 off/gal T-Mobile Tuesdays
.15 off/gal per $100 w/ MC at Giant
2x points Visa GCs this past week (.10 off/gal per 100 pts)
2.2% back with Barclay World MC
So my current math is:
Costs:
$500 VGC at Giant= $5.95 fee, .69 MO fee (kmart is my go to)= ~$7
Earn:
Gas: $1.41/gal*20 gal (max fill)= $28
Travel Cash Back: $500*.022=$11
I got 5K in GCs today, so a $280 in Gas and $110 for $70 outlay is a pretty sweet deal.
With this stacked on top, it would add another $40-$50.

I hit the SYWR free money pretty hard sometimes… and don’t spend much over the minimum. I guess they are on to me.
How did you link the accounts? I signed up because I’m a SYW member and saw this promotion. I submitted info, verified the two small deposits for GasBuddy. But the wallet in GB just shows “Verifying your account” even though i got another email from GB stating my card has been shipped. I need them linked by tomorrow to get the 50 cents. No one seems to have the answer besides telling me to link in wallet. Well that’s not an option as it just stays on “verifying your account” screen. So frustrated. Signed up on the 21st and I’m sweating the deadline.
And the email I received from SYW for the 50 cents was to only VIP SYW members. So I don’t believe it’s available to everyone. Just the standard 30 cents.

I registered yesterday with the .50c/gallon promo link and a message showed that I’m only eligible for .30c/gallon for 60 days. I still signed up but I didn’t know you could only use a checking account to fund the account. I was hoping to double up with a credit card.
