Our Verdict

These always sell well when it’s 10%, so will be interesting to see how 5% goes. Keep in mind you can’t use the Redcard discount to further discount these gift cards, but you can use Redcard when redeeming the giftcards for another 5% (no longer works)

You can buy multiple $500 target GCs, just need to purchase them separately. Great deal for target resellers. Basically free MR for me with BBP.

Cheaper thru Cardpool at 8% off. However with the risks of a secondhand card and it also doesn’t come right away either.. my last order took 3 days to arrive even though the app says “delivered instantly”.

Your can get it from Cardcash, comes withing 5 minutes. Use Paypal with discover. 8+5=13%. After you get the card, make sure you transfer the balance to your primary card to reduce the chances of fraud (or whoever sold the card from wiping the balance).

The Amex Superstore offer should get another 5% at Target.com if targeted. I already blew through my Discover/PayPal.

They closed the online loophole that let you start check out with redcard and then adding gift cards after that gave 5% off the entire purchase even if gift cards paid for it all.

Pay with PayPal using your Discover-It Card for an extra 5%. Paypal and Restaurants are the 5% Category right now

Hmm, this does change the value proposition a bit, but don’t know if it’s still worth the effort. We have 4 Discover cards and I don’t see us capping Q3 that easily. Thanks for this.

“Keep in mind you can’t use the Redcard discount to further discount these gift cards, but you can use Redcard when redeeming the giftcards for another 5%.”

On Target website, it clearly says..”If you use a REDcard in the same purchase transaction with another form of payment, the 5% discount will apply only to the purchase amount tendered to your REDcard.”

Just curious on how to get another 5%, as I didn’t find a way to do this for online transactions.

there is not a way to do that. You can’t combine them.

I think his point was the DoC post above says you CAN get the extra 5%, which is incorrect (as he says, you confirm, and I also know from experience). A year or 2 ago it definitely was possible to get an extra 5%, but they fixed that. Info in the DoC post is outdated.

I don’t seem to get 5% redcard discount when redeeming gift cards. Is there some trick? I usually load the gift card to the app, they scan the app, gift card is deducted and no redcard discount.

No.

In short, deal is useless for red card holders if it’s just 5%

Not completely true, you’d get your 2% or whatever from your non Target CC so if you don’t mind having your money tied up briefly on the GC you’d get about 7% total. Even better if working on MSR.

2% Cashback and it costs you:

– locking in $X dollars into gift cards
– managing the gift cards including possible fraud
– redcard free shipping
– redcard promotions like an extra 15% on S&S.

Long story short this is absolutely not worth it for redcard holders in 99% cases. My time is worth much more than this, as yours should be as well.

What time? It takes a minute to submit an online order then we add it to our Target app like we do for any other Target gift card we acquire. We rarely use shipping as the curbside pickup is faster and also free. I have used thousands of Target gc over the years with zero issues.

I wouldn’t propose tying up an amount material to you but if you don’t have a redcard or know you are going to spend that $500 within a month or two there is a benefit. If I need free shipping or a special promotion I can still use my redcard.
