[Expired] Target Circle: Save 5% On Target Giftcards ($500 Max, Today Only)

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Target Circle is offering a 5% discount on Target gift cards. Must load coupon to account first

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid only for October 6, 2020 or while promotion last.
  • Valid for a one-time use purchase in-store or online
  • $500 maximum

Our Verdict

Discover it is offering 5% back on Target.com purchases this quarter, and ABOC has 5% back for Target in store purchases. Unfortunately doesn’t stack with the 5% REDcard discount.

That’s weird. My order got cancelled a couple of hours later. That’s a first. Now my offer is lost. Oh well.

My plan to maximize this offer was to buy with Chase PayPal 5% and then roll over the GC into the December 10% deal when it comes around. It would have been 20% off all said and done.

On the bright side, last time I had a cancelled/refunded PayPal transaction with the Chase PayPal 5%, I still earned the 5x points minus 1x points refunded (4x points MS). Not sure if it still works this time around but we’ll see. Last year I bought a $1.5K TV but it got cancelled (not by me) and I still earned a free 4% and didn’t have to worry about the how to meet the quarterly category anymore.

Target bans rolling over GCs since 2016 or 2017. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/target-draining-e-gift-cards-purchasedrolled-online-recent-10-promo/
It would have been 18~19% off. 10% off of 5% off of 5% rarely works out to 20%, unfortunately. But I hope you get to keep that free 4x UR!

Sorry for the late reply. My math is simple and kindergarten haha. Unfortunately, the PayPal transaction refunded itself instead of posting as another transaction so no free UR MS.

As for rolling over Target GC. I’m not sure if during the promotion period, there is more scrutiny but you are able to do it right now no problem. Target will never hardcode their system to prevent rolling over GC because of the way they run their “free” Target GC promotions.

It is important not to create any linkage (same card, billing address, etc) to bypass the per customer restriction during promotion periods. People were getting cards drained because they were rolling over the GC they just bought during the same promotional period or created some sort of customer linkage to bypass restrictions. This sort of was solved last year when Target added a grace period before the gift cards were activated. Card weren’t activated until after the promotion period.

I’m unable to get around the checkout “Payment” page, where in place of “[ ] Apply a Target GiftCard” checkbox is “Target GiftCard not available” as payment. Help articles provide “Target GiftCards can’t be used to purchase the following: …Target GiftCards”. https://help.target.com/help/subcategoryarticle?childcat=Target+GiftCards&parentcat=Gift+Cards

Buying TGC with TGC is only in store. Online was never an option.

I hope they blocked it only because this is a target app deal. But I tried multiple times in store and the register and self check out rejected gift card as a payment. I’ve flipped many cards as of last Christmas and it always worked. As long as the employee didn’t notice or you used target wallet or self check out.

I didn’t have a problem with the most recent 5% off deal that currently is still active during amazon prime days. This gift card promotion is unique in that it is a target circle offer. Not sure what was the reason for my cancellation, since I used PayPal for the current deal and it went through, albeit I did use a different CC.

I imagine that the Amex superstore offer would work…?

Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $50 in one or more transactions in-store or online at select superstores by 10/15/2020. Limit of 2 statement credits (total of $10). See terms for exclusions.

Given that the Thanksgiving deal last year was limited to $300, wouldn’t this still be a good deal to use the Discover card with?

Redcard 5% doesn’t seem to apply.

If I use redcard, can I get extra 5% off?

I was wondering the same thing. Otherwise, maybe it can be used to get the discount by going the long way and using PayPal key linked with 5% Chase freedom.

I’m assuming you can use PayPal to checkout online and use Chase Freedom. They also tend to have 10% off gift cards the week after what was Black Friday. Obviously, you can stack this with their deal days or whatever it’s called next week.
