Has anyone gotten their 2500 points? It has been over 10-12 weeks after the promo ended. I sent a SM to BBVA two days ago. No response so far. Please post if you received or even if you haven’t received the bonus points.

Just wanted to follow up. BBVA did not and would not give me the 2500 bonus points. I filed a CFPB complaint on March 30 and received the 2500 bonus points on April 5. Thanks DOC for providing the resources so we know how to proceed in situations such as this.

Dang! I finally found a utility bill to pay (my annual VoIP bill just came up). Paid it today with my BBVA thinking to deal went through 10/31. Duh! Ended 10/1. Oh well.

Wouldn’t have mattered anyway. I have fought with these guys, made phone calls, and turned it over to the cfpb. Still no dice. Avoid BBVA like the plague.

Anyone tried a payment through Plastiq for a utility? Might work. I might try it. It would take forever for the data point to come through, but sharing the thought now, if others want to try.

Answering my own question… Tried paying both my electric and water bills via Plastiq with my BBVA AmEx. Coded as “TAX PAYMENTS”. Those same two payees coded as utilities with my Citi Premier card. Oh well.

Aww! I got this offer. My phone company (CentruyLink land line) takes credit cards— been using my Citi DiubleCash on autopay for years. Went to change my card to BBVA, but it wants to add a $3.50 fee! My monthly bills don’t get the fee. Don’t want to risk changing now. Dang!

So, the Electric Co will do a card payment for $2.90. I’ll have to think about that.

Omg, this company is terrible! I haven’t logged in since they shut down the compass credit site so I tried to log into the bbva online banking site (set up id over a year ago) and it wouldn’t accept my info. Tried the forgot username option and it states the info isn’t valid! My statements go to that email so I know the info’s correct. Called to get assistance and had to schedule a callback for an hour from now. What a crap company. So difficult.

BBVA is the worst. I opened the checking account when they had the $200 bonus and my setting was defaulted to mailed statements and it took them about 6 months to change the setting on my account to estatements and partially refunded all of the fees they were charging me for the paper statements.

Im not usually one to complain about these things (I still netted probably $190 in the deal) but thought I would share my experience.

I have to call every month to reverse the $3 paper statement fee. Every month their support seems completely unaware of the cause yet assures me that the issue is resolved. Just a few more months until I hit the one year mark. I cannot wait to close this account.

Between the horrible user experience (website, doesn’t play well with Mint, autopay issues) and having to manually follow these dinky promos I’ll pass.

I’ve come to realize that after a few years of doing churning I want to scale back wherever possible and with amex offers gone, no more NBA 5x opportunity and the poor experiences as stated here already its something I should’ve done a long time ago.

That said, thanks as usual DoC for posting this. Definitely am appreciative of these posts, my irritation is solely directed at BBVA.

Their CS does suck big time. I didn’t get my 1500 points from last November or December for spending $150 online.

no minimum amt>? also, in my experience, good luck getting these points. The SM on BBVA’s website is worthless, and their phones aren’t much better.

most of my utilities can’t use Amex, anyway, so this is moot for me. but their promos in the past take the full 90 days (sometimes more) to get the points to post.

I see this offer from BBVA, but many of my utilities don’t accept credit cards and the ones that do don’t take American Express. Is there any way around this?

yeah, that’s the rub. I wonder if “Cable/Phone” can be considered Utilities.

Probably not, but would be glad to be proven wrong.
