[Targeted] Capital One Shopping Portal: 20% Cashback On Giftcards.com

Update 10/12/24: Deal is back, 20% this time.

Update 6/16/24: Deal is back, 12%.

Update 10/20/23: Deal is back, now 12%.

Update 9/14/23: Some people are reporting now getting an email from Capital One with either 12% or 15% back at Giftcards.com. It’s a targeted offer.

The Offer

No direct link to offer

  • The Capital One shopping portal is offering some members 24% cashback on purchases

Our Verdict

Obviously an absolutely insane offer if targeted. This also stacks with the 5% off sale as promo code VETERANSDAYSALE is listed on Capital One shopping.

Walmart is back as a redemption option. Etsy is now available too.

I wasn’t targeted, but I’ll look out for an email.

I haven’t used giftcards.com before. Is it like Pepper? Seems like some of their promotions, even without Capital One Spending, are better (e.g., 10% on Petsmart). Is there any catch?

It’s just BHN. I wouldn’t say it’s like pepper. Lower limits. More likely to cancel orders. You also either don’t get a discount, or get a straight discount while buying GC on discount… You can earn like 1% back in rewards (so that part is like pepper?) depending on what you buy.

Is 10% on petsmart a good deal? I’ve been gone for a couple weeks but 10% off petsmart sounds like an ass deal.

The catch is that you’re buying from BHN direct so your credit card might code it as sus category.

When you say “sus category”, do you mean cash advance? Or just not a category with a lot of rewards?

10% on Petsmart isn’t a fantastic deal, but its more than Pepper at the moment! Sometimes Pepper may be higher, but sometimes you need to make the purchase today.

New Exclusion clause made it ineligible for Visa gift cards. As this card has service fee, we cannot buy Visa giftcards with the cashback. I already tried and marked as ineligible.

“Not eligible for any required taxes, service or shipping fees and orders over $2,000″

I purchased VGCs in September (after this language went into effect) using a targeted offer and the orders tracked. I think this language just means that the fee itself is noncommissionable.

However, if you try to combine with an unlisted promo code, that could cause the purchase to be marked ineligible. That’s a known issue with C1 Shopping.

Ok I think then I will try again and see. Do C1 honor ineligible CB if missing CB is submitted

I think your chances of getting something if it’s already been marked as ineligible are low, but no harm in trying.

Did the high % cash back targeted offers for VGCs without a promo code actually get payed out to you by Cap1?

I think that just means you don’t get cashback on the $5.95 portion. This was a change to nearly all portals a while back.

is there a difference between visa vs mastercard gift cards? I mainly see visa in travel/credit card forums.

CW Unfortunately, there is no simple answer.

For cards from giftcards.com, for example, I have had difficulty using MCGCs but not VGCs on the AARP Rewards website, and VGCs but not MCGCs with the payment processor for my wife’s doctor.

For tax payments, INCOMM’s MCGCs have fewer issues than INCOMM’s Vanilla VGCs. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/a-complete-guide-to-paying-your-taxes-with-a-credit-card/

So it depends on where you are planning to use the cards. You may wish to get some of each and try them at the places where you most frequently need to make payments.

Targeted for 7.5% back in late September but it didn’t even track… Emailed for help and was told to wait 90 days. I would suggest to purchase with caution.

Same. They tracked as shopping trips, but they aren’t pending despite clicking through the targeted email and buying the specific brands in the email. Told to wait 90 days and have that on my calendar, but it’s part of their breakage game. After 120 days, they say it’s too late to help you, so they’re hoping you forget to follow up. They still get their commission and rob from you.

yb I emailed support with the receipts, and they instantly credited me. Obnoxious, but at least that worked.

I am going to pass because C1 has terrible cashout options and Giftcards.com has terrible tracking reliability. Just not a good combo.

Did anyone’s giftcards.com account just vanished? My email based account (not google login) just vanished out of thin air and the website shows that it was never registered.

Nope. Sent them an email about this. I have thousands of dollars worth of orders in that account so it is very weird to me. Thanks for giving a data point though. Good to know I was (unfortunately) not the only one.

Ha! I’ve been negative for years now thanks to reward claw backs. I wouldn’t touch these deals with their shady reward practices.

A trick to getting Capital One targeted offers: go to the website of whatever you want to purchase, and activate the browser extension. Go to Capital One shopping and look at “sites I’ve visited” or “products I’ve viewed”. I consistently get way more than other portals like Rakuten.

DO NOT , I REPEAT DO NOT use the 10% off visa gift card coupon code with capital one shopping, it will show illegible.
