Our Verdict
The best offer on this card is currently two free nights at any Hyatt property, $50 statement credit after first purchase and 5,000 for adding an authorized user. Is the 40,000 point offer better or worse? That depends on what sort of properties you want to redeem for, it’s basically just 40,000 points vs two free nights and $50. The Hyatt award table is as follows:
So if you’re staying at category five or higher, then the two free night offer would be strictly better. But the points offer does open up the possibility of points and cash stays:
I’d say the points offer also gives you greater flexibility on what to do with the points from the authorized user and the $2,000 spending requirement. It’s a shame that the 10% points back promotion has ended (although I suspect this timing isn’t incidental). Personally I think this bonus is more valuable than the free nights, but I prefer more lower end properties than a few top end properties. Last year they also sent out a targeted bonus for 50,000 points, so maybe Chase/Hyatt are trying to find the sweet spot to offer a points bonus on.
