[Targeted] Citi American Airlines Gold Card 65,000 Miles No 24 Month Language

The Offer

  • Citi has sent out targeted offers via mail offering a sign up bonus of up to 65,000 miles on the Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard. Bonus is broken down as follows:
    • 55,000 miles after $4,000 in spend within the first four months
    • Additional 10,000 miles after spending a total of $6,000 within the first 12 months

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $50 is waived for the first twelve months
  • Card earns:
    • 2x miles per $1 spent on eligible American Airline purchases
    • 1x miles per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • 25% savings on inflight purchases
  • Access to reduced mileage awards

Our Verdict

The offers I’ve seen do not contain the restrictive 24 month language as well, but please check your own offers to confirm this. This means you should be able to get the bonus even if you’ve opened or closed a Citi American Airlines card in the past 24 months. This offer is better than the 60,000 miles currently being offered on the Platinum select card. As always make sure you read through these things everybody should know about Citi cards.

Hopefully somebody who has done multiple of these can answer this for me….

My question is simple…I understand that the no 24 month language means i can open with a mailer a gold AA card and get the bonus, even if i currently have an AA platinum i opened in the last 24 months. So my question is…

If I ALREADY Have a gold (currently) AA card, can i open another one with the mailer that has no 24 month language and still get the bonus? Similarly, if i have a platinum already, can i open a second platinum and get the bonus?

Any DPs on this? Much appreciated!

How is this better than the 60k offer on the Platinum? The Platinum is 60k after $3k spend. This gold offer is one of two things: 55k after $4k spend, or 65k after $10k spend. That’s ridiculous – hell for $10k spend you could hit minimum spend on the Citi AAdvantage Platinum ($3k), the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($4k), and the Chase Marriott card ($3k) and walk away with 60k AA miles, 50k UR points, and 80k Marriott points.

So, if I already have a citi AA card, and the bottom of my citi AA gold mailer says, “If you are an existing Citi / AAdvantage cardmember, you are not eligible for this offer on your existing account.” that means I won’t get the bonus? Just want to confirm, b/c that’s slightly different from the other language I’ve heard mentioned, which is “American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage®card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.” My offer says nothing at all about 24 months.

Anyone have any experience with using an expired code? My wife has received three versions of this offer over the last few months. A few of the offers have since lapsed, but when I entered the code it looked like it would still work.

I’m curious whether she could take repeat the sign up bonus as long as the 24th month language is excluded.

As long as your code unlocks the app page you can use it, and the bonus is automatically attached. In the past 12 digit codes have often expired on the stated date while 9 digit codes will usually last for another 2 months. It is this kind of code which is transferable which is not true of the former. But all physical mailers come without the 24 month language so you are able to stock up your miles.

Apply away, but don’t violate Citi’s application rules (=timelines).

I would love to try and attempt to use some of the expired offers your wife received, if you are willing to share. Typically each mailer can be used around 4 times (9 digit codes being the only transferrable ones). Greatly appreciated! bfdrinks07 @ gmail

Yes mine was the same offer. $4000 in 4 months for 55,000 miles and extra 10,000 miles if you spend a total of $6,000 in 12 months. It’s taking forever to receive this card from Citi though. I was approved 12/23 and still haven’t received it.

Interesting that I got this 12 digit invite offer, but it was for 55.000 miles after spendings $4000 in the first 4 months but an extra 10,000 miles after only spending a TOTAL of $6000 the first 12 months. So only an extra $2000 spend instead of $10,000 to get the extra 10,000 miles. No prior AA card 24-month exclusion anywhere. I’m wondering if I should bite.

I have had a Citi AA Platinum Select card for years with my wife as an authorized user. She got this offer in the mail today so I am wondering if she would get the 65,000 miles if she is an authorized user on my card? Is that considered being a current AA cardholder?

An AU is not the cardholder. It is your account and has the same number.

Independent of that, the value of those mailers is that you will be eligible for the bonus even if you are a current cardholder. Mailer offers don’t have the 24 month restriction you find with the public links.

Received the (12 digit offer code, 55k for 4k spend in 4 mos, + 10k for total 10k spend in 12 mos) mailer 12/11/17, had the citi platinum aadvantage card up until September of this year, which I cancelled at that point. Only current card I have with Citi is the hilton honors card, which is being transferred to amex. Have flown with AA twice domestic roundtrip in the past 4 months, and about 12 times total domestic round trip in 2017.

Submitted application 12/11/17 online. Be sure to type the URL exactly with capitals, as it is sensitive: citi.com/applyAAgoldcard; if you don’t type AA caps it will error out, must use proper capitalization.

Current credit situation: have all three bureaus credit scores from 10/27/17 due to mortgage application: 766 Experian; 766 Transunion; 776 Equifax (thx Equifax <3). As of 12/11/17 Credit Karma (CK) says my score is 808 Transunion and 816 Equifax (<3).

Hard Inquiries (CK): 9 on TU, 6 on Equifax. AAoA (CK): 2.04 TU, 2.10 Equifax.

New accounts (CK): 1/3 mo, 2/6mo, 6/12mo, 14/24 mo

Application submitted with 57,000 income. Immediately went to "Your application is pending, call 1-866-606-2787 to submit additional information for final determination…" Called in at 8pm Central time and spoke with Alicia from the west or midwest somewhere and she said she should be able to get me cleared, just a matter of credit limit. She offered me a choice: $8,900 as is, or $10,500 if I reduce the line on "one of my other accounts" by the $1,600. Since I only have the one account I asked to confirm what accounts I had with Citi, and she verified I only have the HHonors, and she said: "Which, you know, we can't do anything with right now, so I apologize that I offered you the option, I wouldn't have had I known that when I suggested it." So I got the AAdvantage Gold card with an $8,900 line. 🙂 FYI the credit limit on my Citi HHonors account is $11,000. So apparently with $57,000 income the most Citi is willing to offer me on two lines is 19,900 (34.91%). Cheers!

Received my offer yesterday. Will likely respond to the offer for the 65K miles. I maintain an AA account without a co-branded card, so this works for me. I usually transfer 25k Starwood points and AAl gives you an extra 5k not a bad deal I suppose. Will reach that in short order. Sad that there are not other benefits to go with it. Perhaps they will let you switch to another card after a period of time like Chase minus a new sign on bonus.
