[Expired] [Targeted] Citi Authorized User Bonuses

Deal has ended, view more Citi deals by clicking here.

Update 5/4/20: Another round has been sent out. This time valid until June 30th, 2020. Subject line is ‘<name>, we’re contacting you about UNLOCKING a bonus statement credit’ Hat tip to reader telewatcr

Citi ThankYou Preferred

  • Spend $2,000 on purchases and earn 2,500 Citi ThankYou Points

Citi ThankYou Premier

  • Spend $2,000 on purchases and earn 2,500 Citi ThankYou Points

Our Verdict

Seems to be an extra 1.25x points per $1 spent and requires adding an authorized user. Pretty terrible offers and not something I’d bother with personally.

2,500 for $1,500 on my preferred card, a nice offer as stacked with my additional 2x retention offer, almost 5x for first $1,500

Got this on a Rewards+ card as well. 2500 for adding an authorized user with $2k in spend. Will likely use it at grocery to get 2x + 2500.

Not a good idea to try to run your own credit cards through your own merchant account, AFAIK. And there’s probably a better place somewhere around here for you to post about that, rather than this topic which seems pretty unrelated and where anyone looking for information about Paypal and merchant accounts is unlikely to find it.

If I add P2 as authorized user is she still eligible for a signup bonus later on? Does this affect 5/24 for Chase? It looks like I can add minor children with no age requirement, so maybe that is the safer option.

FWIW I added a child as the AU, received but didn’t activate their card, spent 2k on my card, and already received the bonus.

What eventually happened with your child AU card?

Did Citi follow-up with you re: activation or providing SSN?
Did the card automatically get cancelled and removed from the account eventually?

Got this for my Dividend card, but with a $25 statement credit. I might do it.

Got the offer on my Premier too. Needs 2k in spend by 4/30. I view it more as a 2x TYP offer than a real ‘add an AU’ offer, since the spend can be on either card. Not very competive unless your Citi card is your main daily driver and you’re not doing any MSR at the moment. But at least Citi is sort of trying to compete with Amex in this dimension.
