Our Verdict
This card is issued by Comenity Bank and normally gives you Platinum status after $5,000 in spend (first year you get it after first purchase), so this is an upgrade to Diamond. Pretty good offer if you value Diamond status with TR, the earning rates on this card aren’t great though (points are worth 1¢ each):
- 5x credits per $1 spent at Total Rewards resorts and casinos and on sport, concert, and show tickets through TR Live Events
- 2x credits per $1 spent on airlines, gas and groceries
- 1x credits per $1 spent everywhere else
By doing the $5,000 spend in the 1x category you’d be forgoing at least 1% in cash back or $50, not terrible for Diamond status. If you got this offer, let me know if you’re planning on meeting the minimum spend requirement.

Don’t do it. You’ll have to wait 3 months plus 45 days, so more than 4 months before the diamond upgrade is processed.
I was just upgraded to diamond – other than the celebration dinner, and resort fees being waived, it doesn’t look like it’s that much better than platinum to me! I am going to AC in august, I wonder if i’m more likely to get a better room as diamond? also, I understand you now have to pay to get in the diamond lounge, but they don’t take cash – you have to use comps?? what if you don’t have comps available?
I get Diamond through FoundersCard membership. Diamond also gives your free daypass access to Vegas Spas and two free shows per month. (Caesars Spa is upcharge of $20 and Linq is $15) https://founderscard.com/membership?code=FCIN825 at annual rate of $395
I got the email, was Diamond last year until Jan 1, 2017. I got approved but only for $2500. It takes a closer to 5 business days(they say 3-5) for a charge to post. Can’t make a payment above total balance due. I charged my gym trainer fees for 2 of us and some under $100 items to the card. Total was just over $2,000. I paid as soon as the charges posted to the account. They show your payment and it looks like your available credit right away includes the amount you just paid. But wait, your not told that there’s a hold until it clears the bank you used to pay. So I try to use this card for some car repairs and they Comenity declines it for $400. I call and I’m told there’s a 3-5 business day hold on payments. OK I ask when that’s over. I’m told by tomorrow(Friday). So the next Monday I planned to use the card for a car repair for another car. I even call Sunday to make sure there won’t be any issues. I’m told everything is cleared no holds no pendng charges, I can charge the whole $2,500.
Well guess what happened when I tried to charge to this card. Declined. I call again, now I’m told the person I checked with Sunday, doesn’t have a way to see there’s still a hold on the $2,000 payment I had made and they don’t have a way to override so I can use this card. This person checked with their supervisor and was told the hold would be done by the 24th. So tomorrow I’m going to try again, thank goodness my car repair place and I go back over 10 years and they were willing to wait until the 24th to try it again. If it doesn’t work tomorrow, I have a backup plan to pay, but it will “suck” that I can’t use the $2,500 to go towards making the $5,000 to get diamond level back.
I’m beginning to think it’s set up so you can’t get that $5,000 within the 90 day period.
did the email come from commenity bank or caesars?
The registration page is a joke. My friend who doesn’t have the credit card was able to register for the promotion. So if you weren’t targeted, it seems like you shouldn’t get your hopes up.
i love how the email subject line starts with “This is not a joke”..
well you know what else isnt a joke? Cum Bank shutting your account down. $5k spend is a trap.
Interesting. I was Platinum, but received an email with the same photo, saying “Enjoy your Diamond Status Through 2018 with the Total Rewards Visa Card,” but the subject line says “This is Not a Joke, Get Your Platinum Status Back with the Total Rewards Visa Card,” and the body of the email talks about Platinum status automatically with the card and no mention of Diamond for $5K. Marketing mistake? Worth applying to see if they will honor it?
Seems like a marketing mistake, 5k for platinum is the normal offer though. No idea if they will honor it.
Previously held diamond status last year, went down to Platinum as of today. Submitted info, stated I was registered.
Did you receive the e-mail? If you didn’t, I don’t think you’ll get Diamond.
Nope didn’t receive it, may spend the $5k for data point
Diamond also gave you access to a 4 night stay at Atlantis last year. It looks like they brought it back again this year – https://www.totalrewards.com/content/cet-tr/en/earn-and-redeem/with-tr-alliances/atlantis.html
I did it last month. The 4 night stay was under $100 (they still charged me a few minor fees)
Where did you eat when you were there? I refuse to pay those prices. I’m wondering if going off property is something that can be done.
My family and I stayed there in August of 2016, and there are some other nearby restaurants within walking distance or a quick car ride. Dunkin Donuts was across the street, along with a lunch/dinner restaurant by the name of Anthony’s, I believe. Check out Trip Advisor for additional details, but don’t be put off by the in-house restaurant prices.
Diamond also allows you to not pay resort fees on hotel stays.
