Our Verdict

Wanna Get Away fares don’t work to trigger this promotion. Also, bonus points don’t count toward Companion Pass. Not too useful even if you were targeted, but depending on the situation, some people might be able to make use of this. Check your Promotions tab to see if you were targeted.

Thanks to all those who sent this in.

Interesting that these points wouldn’t count toward the companion pass earnings. Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come!

SW shopping portal promos don’t count towards the CP, so it doesn’t surprise me that this doesn’t either.

Another one that comes to mind were the 5k bonus points for Hawaii residents who signed up for RR last year. That promo didn’t count towards CP either.

Long story short, i wouldn’t worry too much.

I was targeted. Located in CA. I’m A-list preferred and earned CP last year (through flights, not CC points). Just a DP for everyone.

Got this but I rarely fly anything other than the “Wanna Get Away” rate, so useless

I was targeted for this promo. I am also A-List and got CP through CC deals last year.

Targeted, no status but earned CP last year with double SW card bonuses.

Last year, in May, Southwest reps were doling out free 15,000 miles at airports (after arrival, at least at MSP) to residents of several states. If I had known beforehand what states were eligible, I’d have updated my Southwest account to a fake address in one of those states.

Never heard of this, I fly into MSP frequently and have never seen SW reps anywhere but the front check in counter and they definitely didn’t offer anything.
