[Targeted] PayPal: Get Up To $500 When You Sell Using a QR Code

Update 4/17/21: looks like there might be a public offer, but only for $20.

Update 4/6/21: Another round has gone out, seems like people are more seeing this when logged into PayPal rather than receiving an e-mail. Valid until 4/30/21.

The Offer

No direct link to offer, sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘Limited-time offer – get up to $500 cashback’

  • PayPal is offering some users up to $500 for selling using a QR code. Get $250 cash back to your account with PayPal when you receive your first QR code payment of $5 or more by October 31, 2020. Get another $250 when you receive 5 transactions of $5 or more by October 31, 2020

The Fine Print

  • Open only to residents of any one (1) of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia who: (1) are eighteen (18) years of age or older; (2) are holders of a U.S. personal (including PayPal, PayPal Cash and PayPal Cash Plus), premier or business PayPal account in good standing (“Valid Account”); (3) receive an authorized email containing the invitation to participate in the offer (eligibility for/those who receive such an email will be determined solely by PayPal); and (4) activate the offer as directed in the invitation to participate (“Eligible Participant(s)”).
  • Starts at 12:00a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) on September 21, 2020 and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on October 31, 2020 (“Offer Period”)
  • Eligible Transaction(s): Completed sales made using the QR code functionality via the PayPal app during the Offer Period where the buyer also has a Valid Account (“Eligible Transaction(s)”). Eligible Transactions do not include QR code transactions made via PayPal Here or transactions where the buyer has a non-US PayPal account. If an otherwise Qualifying Transaction is pending, refunded, results in a failed capture, or otherwise does not complete during the Offer Period, that Qualifying Transaction will not qualify.
  • How to Earn: After activating the offer, Eligible Participants will receive $250 in their Valid Account after their first Eligible Transaction is completed. Then, upon completing five (5) Eligible Transactions, Eligible Participants will receive an additional $250 in their Valid Account.
  • Miscellaneous: Eligible Transactions are subject to review and verification. PayPal reserves the right to cancel, suspend or modify this offer in part or in its entirety at any time without notice, for any reason in its sole discretion. Similar offers may run at the same time; qualification for this offer does not constitute qualification for any other offer. PayPal is not responsible and/or liable for any lost, stolen, late, incomplete, illegible, interrupted, delayed, or misdirected e-mail, reward, or offer-related materials or correspondence or if any participant’s e-mail address, Valid Account, or other contact information does not work, is deleted, or is changed without participant giving prior written notice to PayPal. Offer is void where prohibited, if Eligible Transactions are not completed through legitimate channels, or if any offer-related materials are counterfeit, altered, fraudulent, defective, tampered with or irregular in any way. Certain offers may not be transferable. Any questions relating to the offer will be resolved in PayPal’s sole discretion and its decisions related to the offer will be final and binding.

Our Verdict

Some people received this offer but it was only for $50/$50 instead of $250/$250. Seems like a great offer for anybody that sells anything ;).

I was targeted by email on my business account for a $50 promo to receive my first QR code payment by 4/30. I had my daughter send me a $5 payment by QR code with a 17 cent fee attached to the payment. Received $50 within 4 business days.

I was also able to complete the public offer on my same PayPal account. P1-P3 did this on both personal and business accounts, and only 5 payments total per account were needed to receive all bonuses. We paid with our Discover CC’s to receive a few dollars in cashback on all the payments.

Targeted only for $50 on an account I previously received the $500 payout for last round.

Can your friends send you money through QR code and will this count?

Just an FYI that they are charging fees for accepting payments through QR code, even though their promo said that it there were no fees through 2020. Actually, one part of the ad said 2021. Either way, they’ve gone back on their word.

Accepting payments via QR codes is fee-free through the end of the year according to this: https://www.paypal.com/us/brc/article/how-to-install-a-qr-code. I’m wondering if it would be possible/advisable to use this to max out Freedom Paypal spend. My guess is that if you colluded to transfer funds back and forth, you might get shut down.

That’s why you send it only in one direction and to non-associated accounts. 😉

Using your PayPal to swipe your own cards is almost a guaranteed shutdown on both ends.

Received both my bonuses already. I had P2 scan my code and send me money 5 different times. First payment from P2 was on 10/5 and Last payment was received on 10/16. First $100 credit came on 10/10 and second $100 credit came today (10/21.)

One of the quickest promos to payout. I completed my $50/$50 on Sept 29 and was paid out today via PayPal. Transaction was labeled “Credit from PayPal”.

I received a $200 offer $100/$100. Is there a special QR for sales vs F/F? I tried having someone send money using the only QR I’m aware of on my paypal and it only gave the friends and family option to send the money. Wondering if I need to upgrade from a personal account to take advantage…?
